The National Exhibition is the largest event held by the Chinese Calligraphy Association nationwide, and it has been highly valued by the entire calligraphy community. The works displayed in this exhibition basically represent the level of contemporary calligraphy art.

However, if we look closely at these works, we will find problems in them. For example, this painting:



What is wrong with this painting? The most obvious thing is that there are many mistakes in the wording.

For example, he mispronounced the sentence "抓我皇帝" (Dai wo Huangdi) as "逯我皇帝". "歹" means "arrived" and "逯" means "walking around". From a literal point of view, "歹" is the correct one.



The characters for “耽” and “逯” are similar in shape, and this mistake at least shows that the author does not have a good grasp of the meaning of the text. Nowadays, calligraphy masters like to find some relatively obscure things when writing. What is puzzling is that if you don’t even know the content of the article, what can you write?

Another example is that Suijia was renamed Yuejiangyun, but it was mistakenly changed to Yuejiangyun. Perhaps some people would think that "云" and "云" are very similar Chinese characters. How could the calligraphy of traditional Chinese characters be wrong?



In fact, the word "云" is not only wrong, but also quite wrong. The original word "云" at the end of the sentence means "saying", not referring to the clouds in the sky. "云" and "云" exist in parallel in ancient Chinese, with different meanings. Therefore, they should not be confused in writing.

The author uses the word "cloud" here, firstly, because he does not fully understand the meaning of the original text, and secondly, it shows that his understanding of Chinese or traditional and simplified characters is not thorough enough.



The serious mistakes made by the author, such as mistaking "外内" for "内内" and mistaking "弗" for "不", are because he replaced the original text according to his own understanding.

The book is too long, and he lost interest in reading it after seeing so many mistakes in the first paragraph alone. But judging from the previous performance, we can infer that there will be some more mistakes in the future.



Apart from the above shortcomings, let's take a look at how this picture was painted.

The author of this painting is a student who has just graduated and has not yet graduated. Judging from the shape, this central hall, which is 2.4 meters high and nearly 80 centimeters wide, is really too big. "Yuejiang Tower Record" has about 600 words, but the author wrote it in regular script, which really took some effort.



However, this kind of work always makes people feel that they are using hard work to win sympathy. Why is this? This is because some writers know how to figure out the judges' mentality. If they write a few more words and spend more time thinking, the judges will definitely take this into consideration.

Since the calligraphy is written in regular script and there is a circle of grids on it, it looks very neat and delicate. However, among the people present, how many people have really looked at this painting?



From beginning to end, everyone can start from the first line and see what the last line looks like. Who would be interested in continuing to read? Therefore, although the author of this book has put in a lot of effort, most of it is in vain.

In terms of style, the author added a yellow strip to the two couplets, and wrote the title in seal script and a long postscript in small regular script. However, the lines of the seal script are weak and the structure is unbalanced, which not only fails to highlight the beauty of the painting, but also reduces the style of the painting.



The postscript after the regular script is superfluous and has no literary grace. Compared with Song Lian's "Yuejiang Tower Notes", even a junior high school student may not be able to write such an article.

Therefore, this Chinese painting exhibition, although seemingly exquisite, is actually "pseudo-exquisite". "Whether this painting has reached the true artistic level, I think everyone knows it well."
