IT Home reported on August 1 that Audi officially released the new pure electric model A6 e-tron, marking an important step in its electrification process. The car will be available in two body styles: Sportback sedan and Avant station wagon, directly competing with Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5. Unlike the previous generation of models, the new generation A6 e-tron will be fully electrified, bringing consumers a pure electric driving experience.

With the upcoming launch of the all-electric A6 e-tron, Audi plans to adjust its traditional fuel vehicle lineup. The current fuel version of the A6 will be redesigned and renamed the A7 to comply with Audi's new naming strategy, that is, even-numbered models are all-electric.

The production A6 e-tron looks very similar to the 2021 (Sportback) and 2022 (Avant) concept cars. Minor tweaks include slightly tweaked split headlights, a more prominent black grille surround, traditional door handles, and widened full-width taillights. Audi says the high-tech matrix LED headlights and second-generation OLED taillights offer eight different digital light signatures, and the logo on the tailgate can also light up.

Audi prioritized aerodynamics when developing the A6 e-tron, conducting more than 1,300 simulations and extensive wind tunnel testing. This makes it the most aerodynamic Audi model ever and the most aerodynamic model in the Volkswagen Group. The Sportback has a drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd, slightly better than its competitors but slightly lower than the larger Mercedes-Benz EQS's 0.20 Cd. In addition, the A6 Avant e-tron has a drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd, making it the most aerodynamic station wagon in its class. In terms of size, the two models have the same length, width and wheelbase, which are 4928 mm, 1923 mm and 2946 mm respectively. The station wagon version is 1527 mm high, 40 mm higher than the coupe version.

The dashboard and center console of the new car basically continue the design of the Audi Q6 e-tron. The dashboard adopts a triple screen design, including an 11.9-inch digital instrument panel, a 14.5-inch infotainment display and a 10.9-inch passenger touch screen. In addition, there are two additional screens as virtual rearview mirrors and a rich ADAS system.

Optional features include a panoramic glass roof that can be dimmed at the touch of a button, a four-zone automatic air conditioning system with a fragrance dispenser and ion generator, and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 20 speakers and 830 watts of power.

The Audi A6 e-tron is built on the PPE platform, the same as the Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan EV. Three powertrains will be available at the initial launch, and more rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models will be launched later depending on market conditions.

The entry-level Audi A6 e-tron Performance uses rear-wheel drive and is equipped with an electric motor with an output of 367 horsepower. For consumers who pursue higher performance, Audi offers the A6 e-tron quattro with dual motors and all-wheel drive, with an output of 428 horsepower.

Audi also unveiled the performance-oriented S6 e-tron, which will be available worldwide. The rear-wheel-drive-biased all-wheel-drive system produces a combined output of 503 horsepower, which can be increased to 551 horsepower when the launch control is activated. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 3.7 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 240 km/h.

In addition, spy photos confirm that Audi Sport is developing the RS6 e-tron flagship model. It is expected that its design will be more radical and its performance will be significantly improved over the S6 e-tron.

Both the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron are equipped with a chassis-mounted battery pack with a capacity of 100 kWh (net capacity 94.4 kWh), and the 800-volt architecture supports 270 kW DC fast charging.A6 e-tron: 720-750 km (WLTP), S6 e-tron: 640-670 km(WLTP), depending on body style. Audi also confirmed that a smaller 83 kWh battery option will be available in the future, hinting at a more affordable model.

In terms of chassis settings, the optional air suspension system offers four ride heights. When efficiency mode is activated from the Audi drive select menu, the ground clearance is automatically lowered by 20 millimeters at higher speeds to improve aerodynamics. The base A6 e-tron is equipped with 19-inch aerodynamically optimized wheels, while the S line and S6 e-tron are equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels, with 21-inch wheels optional.

The Audi A6 e-tron will start accepting orders in Europe in September 2024. The starting price in the German market for the A6 Sportback e-tron Performance is 75,600 euros (IT Home Note: currently about 591,000 yuan), and the S6 Sportback e-tron is 99,500 euros (currently about 778,000 yuan). The price of the Avant body style of both models will increase by 1,650 euros (currently about 12,903 yuan).

The Chinese market will see the A6L e-tron long-wheelbase model, which is exclusively produced domestically at the Audi FAW New Energy plant in Changchun, and is expected to go on sale in 2025.
