in the last issue of "super unboxing", we compared the intelligent driving capabilities of the xpeng pro and max versions, and concluded that except for intelligent driving in urban areas, they are very similar in other aspects. so, what is the difference between pro and max in terms of performance and workmanship?

we found the pro and max versions of the xpeng g6, which are the 755 ultra-long battery life max version and the 580 long battery life pro version. the official prices are 209,900 and 254,900 respectively.

"lab test" still uses data to speak.

performance testing

let’s first explain the official parameters of the two units.

the 755 ultra long range max version and the 580 long range pro version of the xpeng g6 are both equipped with rear motors. the maximum power of the motors remains the same, both 218kw, and the maximum torque is 440n·m. at the same time, the front and rear tire specifications of the two vehicles are also 235 /60 r18.

it's just that the size and type of battery packs installed in the two vehicles are different, so even with the same tires and power, there are differences in acceleration from 0 to 100 mph.

the xpeng 580 pro version equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack has an official acceleration time of 6.6 seconds from zero to 100 seconds; while the xpeng 755 max version equipped with a ternary lithium battery has an official acceleration time of 5.9 seconds.

after our actual testing:

for the xpeng g6 580 pro version, the fastest acceleration from zero to zero is 6.41 seconds, and the shortest braking distance from zero to zero is 42.03m.

for the xpeng g6 755 max version, the fastest acceleration from zero to zero is 6.03 seconds, and the shortest braking distance from zero to zero is 38.58m.

we conducted 10 consecutive tests on the suspension and brakes of the two vehicles.

among them, the xpeng g6 580 pro version accelerated ten times, and the fastest result occurred in the sixth time, which was 6.41s.

at this time, the maximum acceleration g value is 0.64g, and the cumulative travel distance from standstill to 100km/h is 98.65m.

the xpeng g6 755 max version accelerated from 0 to 10 mph ten times, with the fastest result being the second time, 6.03s.

at this time, the maximum acceleration g value is 0.66g, and the cumulative travel distance from standstill to 100km/h is 89.5m.

intuitively, since the xpeng g6 755 max version has a longer battery life and the motor power is the same as the 580 pro version, the 580 pro version should theoretically accelerate faster.

but it may be due to the discharge rate of the ternary lithium battery that the xpeng g6 755 max can still be one step ahead in performance even if it is equipped with a larger-capacity battery pack.

in addition, apart from the different acceleration performance between the two cars, what is surprising is that there are also many differences in braking distance.

after ten extreme braking tests, the shortest braking distance of the xpeng g6 755 max version is 38.58m, and the shortest braking distance of the xpeng g6 580 pro version is 42.03m.

after checking, the tires on both cars are the same size, brand and model, including the front and rear brake calipers.

the only difference is probably that the mileage of the two cars differs by about 10,000 kilometers, so the tire wear is different.

but even so, the limit braking distance difference of nearly 4 meters is still a bit high.

it is reasonable to suspect that the xpeng g6 755 max and the xpeng g6 580 pro are equipped with different types of battery packs and have different cruising ranges, so the adjustment strategies for kinetic energy recovery and braking are also different.

this ultimately resulted in a significant difference in the ultimate braking distance between max and pro.

nvh performance

both the xpeng g6 755 max and the xpeng g6 580 pro have multi-layer soundproof glass in the front, and the tire specifications, motor power and even the styling of the two cars are the same, so can the nvh levels be basically the same? ?

after some testing, this is indeed the case.

at 60km/h, the nvh scores of xpeng pro and max are 52.2 and 52 decibels respectively.

at 80km/h, the nvh scores of xpeng pro and max are 55.1 and 55.4 decibels respectively.

at 120km/h, the nvh scores of xpeng pro and max are 61.6 and 61.2 decibels respectively.

first, the difference in decibels between the two cars at three different speeds is less than 1 decibel, and the difference in nvh between the two cars at 60km/h is only 0.1 decibels.

it can be said that if you want to buy a car, the nvh aspect of the xpeng g6 will be the same whether you choose pro or max.

secondly, comparing the data of pure electric suvs we have tested in the past, the overall nvh level of the xpeng g6 is acceptable in the low-speed range, but the nvh level in the high-speed range of 120km/h is not bad.

paint test

in the paint test, the body colors of the two cars are different. according to the actual test, there is basically no difference in the paint spraying process of the two cars.

relatively speaking, the paint measurement data at point 6 of the xpeng g6 580 pro is more uniform, but overall the paint craftsmanship of both cars is top-notch.

sheet metal testing

the results of the sheet metal test are relatively similar to those of the paint test.

in comparison, the performance of the upper and lower seams of the hood on the left side of the front hood of the xpeng g6 580 pro, the seams on both sides of the door seam, and the sheet metal process on both sides are slightly worse than that of the max, but the errors are controlled within 1mm.

on the other hand, the craftsmanship of the joints between the tailgate and both sides of the fender of the xpeng g6 755 max has a tolerance of 2mm.

so overall, the sheet metal process of xpeng g6 580 pro is more neat, which is a bit interesting.

endurance test

xpeng g6 755 super long range max edition and 580 long range pro edition have different pure electric ranges. we still follow the old rules and start testing from 90% soc until the remaining 20% soc. after testing both let’s see who is stronger based on the car’s battery life achievement rate?

the xpeng g6 580 long-range pro version has an official range of 580km based on the cltc standard. it has traveled a total of 302km and the display shows 114km remaining. finally, the pro version has a battery life achievement rate of 74.3%.

the xpeng g6 755 ultra-long battery life max version has an official battery life of 755km based on the cltc standard. it has traveled a total of 382km, and the display shows 148km remaining, with a battery life achievement rate of 72.4%.

in the battery life test, the pro version has a higher battery life achievement rate than the max, which is a bit surprising.

however, the difference in the endurance achievement rates of the two vehicles is not big. considering that even if the two vehicles are tested for endurance at the same time and route, subtle differences such as the different driving styles of the drivers of the two vehicles will also have some impact.

in general, the xpeng g6 high-speed pure electric battery life achievement rate of more than 70% is still qualified.

write at the end

if you don’t know, usually everyone’s intuition is that the max version of a car model is more expensive than the pro version. naturally, in addition to configuration functions, etc., the product quality in other aspects should also be stronger than the pro version.

however, after our actual testing, the max version does have some advantages over the pro version. for example, due to the difference in the xpeng g6 battery pack, even with the same motor specifications, the max version will have stronger performance.

but at the same time, there is no obvious difference between the two cars in terms of nvh, sheet metal, and paint. even in terms of pure electric battery life, the xpeng g6 580 long battery pro version also measured slightly better results. it's really unexpected.
