luo siyi @johnross431: on september 30, i won the chinese government’s “friendship award”, which is the highest award awarded by the chinese government to foreign experts working in china. i am deeply honored to receive this honor, and i would like to share some of my insights with you.

all my life i want to do something beneficial to humanity. when i became an adult, i understood that the situation in a certain country at a certain point in time is decisive for the progress of all mankind. the french revolution that broke out at the end of the 18th century rewrote the history of europe. the russian revolution in 1917 changed the world political landscape. from the second half of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century, china determined the future of the world.

this means that it will be decided by the chinese people whether mankind will move forward or retreat. xi jinping pointed out from china’s perspective: “in the course of more than five thousand years of civilization development, the chinese nation has made indelible contributions to the progress of human civilization… our responsibility is to unite and lead the entire party and the people of all ethnic groups in the country to take over the carrying the baton of history, we will continue to work hard to achieve the great rejuvenation of the chinese nation, so that the chinese nation can stand stronger and stronger among the nations of the world and make new and greater contributions to mankind."

but from a non-chinese perspective, this means that the interests of all mankind are closely related to the chinese people's national rejuvenation, and only by following the path of socialism with chinese characteristics can the great rejuvenation of the chinese nation be realized. therefore, i will do my best to make my own contribution in the process of china's national rejuvenation, no matter how small my power is. if what i do works for china, it means it works for humanity. the chinese government awarded me this award to show that what i do is at least to some extent useful to china. so i can't imagine anything more satisfying.

but anything useful i do can only be done by working with a lot of chinese people. there are so many people to thank. but it is necessary to point out that any work i have done that is useful to china is due to the chongyang institute of financial studies of renmin university of china, which gave me the opportunity to work in china, and my colleagues at renmin university chongyang who taught me many things. without them, i would not have been able to receive this award. also, i would also like to thank my long-term translator, who is the bridge between me and the chinese people. this explains how a non-chinese person can contribute to china.
