at the 24th china international industry fair (hereinafter referred to as "china industry fair") in 2024, the ciic integrated intelligent chassis of contemporary amperex technology co., ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "contemporary amperex technology") was unveiled. this product, which represents a novel automobile design concept, attracted the attention of on-site visitors.
the core features of the ciic integrated intelligent chassis are "upper and lower decoupling, high integration, and openness to the outside world." as an independently movable mobile energy carrier, the chassis undertakes the three functions of sports center, energy center, and data center.
relevant personnel from times intelligence said that through innovative structural design, the ciic integrated intelligent chassis can absorb more than 85% of the vehicle's collision energy (the traditional chassis can only absorb about 55%), improving vehicle safety and reducing design restrictions, making it easier for partners to focus on the definition of the entire vehicle product, as well as the development of intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit, and vehicle styling that are strongly related to user experience.
according to reports, the ciic integrated intelligent chassis is a platform product, divided into ciic-s/ciic-m/ciic-l, which can meet the different size requirements of a-class cars to d-class cars. the ciic-s model was displayed on site this time, which adopts a pure flat chassis design and is compatible with different solutions such as battery replacement.
regarding the safety issue that is of primary concern to the outside world, times intelligent introduced that the ciic integrated intelligent chassis is designed with the battery as the center, and adopts battery-chassis integration technology to integrate the battery cell directly into the chassis, realizing the common structure with the chassis and better rigidity. at the same time, the battery cell is inverted design, and the battery cell explosion-proof valve faces downward. under extreme working conditions, the high-pressure and high-temperature airflow can be released downward along a special pressure relief path, completing the "decompression and venting" in a safer way, greatly reducing the risk of thermal damage to the passenger compartment; combined with catl's np2.0 (no heat diffusion) technology, it can be achieved that there is no open flame outside the battery pack when the battery cell thermally runs away under extreme working conditions, thereby improving the safety of the entire vehicle.
based on the thermal management system of multi-source heat pumps, the ciic integrated intelligent chassis can achieve more efficient comprehensive energy management and heat source scheduling management, and the attenuation rate of navigation is less than 33% in a low temperature environment of -7°c. the r&d personnel also set up more than 20 thermal management operation strategies, which can realize comprehensive energy management in summer cooling mode, winter heating mode, severe cold heat pump mode, waste heat recovery mode and other modes. among them, in winter scenes and fast charging scenes, the battery can be preheated, allowing the battery to adjust to the appropriate temperature at the appropriate time, ensuring fast charging while improving the battery life.
in addition, the low-voltage power supply and distribution system of the ciic integrated intelligent chassis adopts the pdc+12v lithium battery solution to replace the traditional lead-acid battery. it basically does not need to be replaced during the life of the vehicle (traditional lead-acid batteries need to be replaced every 2-3 years). it is matched with the pdc low-voltage intelligent power supply and distribution controller, which can intelligently detect the safety of the voltage network throughout its life and realize health management.
it is worth noting that on april 18, the first product of ciic's integrated intelligent chassis mass production line rolled off the production line. ciic's integrated intelligent chassis yichun intelligent manufacturing center is also the first integrated intelligent chassis (skateboard chassis) production plant in china based on ctc technology. this marks that ciic has gone through the product design stage and small batch trial production stage, and "will officially move to the mass production stage." shi jinghua, chief operating officer of times intelligence, said at the time.
just one month ago, on august 25, the nezha s hunting ciic-800v version was officially unveiled, equipped with the ciic integrated intelligent chassis, and its cltc power consumption per 100 kilometers is as low as 11.7kw/h. the nezha s hunting ciic-800v version also became the world's first skateboard chassis passenger car.
in fact, the skateboard chassis is not a new thing. as early as the 2002 north american auto show, general motors launched a concept car called "hy-wire", which means hydrogen fuel drive-by-wire control. the biggest feature of this car at the time was that the body and chassis could be separated and replaced independently. general motors called it the "skateboard chassis" at that time.
"based on the product feature of decoupling the upper and lower body, the skateboard chassis will revolutionize the way cars are produced. based on the standardized skateboard chassis, there will be greater room for imagination in the mobile travel industry and car form," said cai jianyong, chief technology officer of catl, in an interview with the paper (www.thepaper.cn).
as for the reasons behind the skateboard chassis' renewed popularity in the industry, cai jianyong said that the driving factors are diverse and complex, and the first and most important one is the "involution" of the current automotive industry. "with the entire industry facing fierce competition, we must constantly find more efficient solutions. the essence of the skateboard chassis is to integrate as much as possible, so that the efficiency of the entire system can be higher and the weight can be lighter, reducing the initial investment cost of new models, while giving consumers more space."
cai jianyong believes that driven by the market factor of "involution", skateboard chassis is becoming one of the solutions to the problem of "faster speed and higher efficiency in multiple scenarios". "this kind of drive has actually been experienced on mobile phones and computers."
cai jianyong also mentioned that the arrival of the opportunity for "evolution of the car itself" with the continuous evolution of driverless technology, as well as consumers' more personalized and diversified demands for cars in the era of smart cars, are all catalysts for the current skateboard chassis technology.
"however, the final push for skateboard chassis technology may require the combined effect of several factors, including the role of technology and the role of the market." cai jianyong emphasized that what can be observed now is that "this technology is slowly becoming popular, and more oems are moving in this direction. this is different from the early stage when only new startups were exploring it."
the reporter of the paper also noticed that times intelligence is also promoting the establishment of relevant technical standards for skateboard chassis. in may this year, times intelligence announced that it had officially joined the internationally renowned technical organization covesa (connected vehicle systems alliance) to participate in and promote the construction of skateboard chassis open ecology and technical standards. covesa is an international technical alliance that focuses on connecting vehicle systems and promoting the development of internet of vehicles technology.
also in may, the csae standard "mechanical performance requirements and test methods for bolted interfaces of intelligent skateboard chassis" promoted by the electric vehicle industry technology innovation strategic alliance and led by times intelligence has passed the project review and has been officially included in the development plan of the china society of automotive engineers. at present, the standard has entered the stage of public solicitation of drafting units. according to the project plan, the draft standard will be completed in december 2024 and submitted for approval and release in may 2025.
