recently, the 15th issue of didi's "questions and answers" focused on the issue of advance payment for sky-high-priced orders. in the first half of this year, didi has advanced 129 million yuan to drivers, all of which are online car-hailing fares that passengers have not yet paid.

after the didi order is completed, most passengers will take the initiative to pay the fare, either before the next ride, or after being reminded by various means such as platform app message push, sms, and phone calls. however, there are indeed some passengers who deliberately do not pay the fare. in order to ensure that the drivers get their labor income in time, didi will advance the fare to the drivers according to the platform rules starting from 2016.

for orders that passengers fail to pay on time, didi will advance payment to the driver on the same day for more than 98.7% of the orders; for orders that are not advanced on the same day, the platform will conduct manual verification to check whether there are any violations of the platform's transaction order rules (such as drivers installing cheating devices, malicious collusion between drivers and passengers, etc.). overall, more than 99.9% of the orders will be advanced to the driver within 7 days.

in the first half of the year, among the online ride-hailing orders that passengers did not pay for, the order with the highest amount didi paid in advance for the drivers was 8,589.74 yuan, 1,618 orders with an advance payment of more than 1,000 yuan, 11,800 orders with an advance payment of more than 500 yuan, and 77,400 orders with an advance payment of more than 200 yuan.

in response to the concerns of drivers, such as "why do some orders have advance payment while others do not?", "does didi only advance payment for small orders and not for large orders?", "why do some large orders not get paid even after appeals?", didi's business security director and anti-fraud expert beihai (pseudonym) said that the size of the order does not affect whether it is paid. however, when there are some violations, didi has the right not to advance payment regardless of the amount, including suspected malicious collusion between drivers and passengers to harm the interests of the platform, and passengers not changing the destination online but the destination is inconsistent with the order destination.

in the first half of 2024, it was verified that about 0.3% of the orders were illegal orders, the platform did not proactively advance payment within 7 days, and the driver's complaint was rejected by the platform. the main reasons for the violation are shown in the figure below.

didi disclosed a case of a driver's advance payment complaint that was rejected. mr. zhang, an online car-hailing driver, said that didi did not advance payment for several large orders, one of which was as high as thousands of yuan. after checking, didi found that there were many anomalies in mr. zhang's orders, such as the actual end location of the order was inconsistent with the order destination, and the passenger did not change the destination on the app; the driver called the customer service line to report that the passenger could not change the destination; the actual mileage, time and amount were too different from the order estimate; the actual driving route included circling, round-trip driving, and the end of the billing location was near the location where the driver accepted the order.

in addition, after verifying the recording of the trip, it was found that master zhang had asked passengers to cooperate in cheating and defrauding the platform of advance payment. master zhang's average daily driving time was about 5.7 hours, but his turnover was 4 times the average level of local drivers, and the number of abnormal orders was significantly higher than the average level of local drivers. based on the above, didi rejected master zhang's appeal for advance payment.

some illegal orders may also bear legal consequences. in july, according to a report from the guangdong provincial high people's court, online car-hailing driver yang placed and accepted false orders, and "ran empty" to defraud the platform of 8,379.36 yuan in fares, constituting the crime of fraud. he was sentenced to seven months in prison, suspended for one year and four months, and fined 5,000 yuan.

didi calls on all drivers to abide by relevant laws and regulations, abide by platform rules, and not take chances. at the same time, didi continues to listen to the voices of more drivers. drivers can click on "didi car owner app-my tools-let's discuss" to feedback on order issues.
