With the advancement of artificial intelligence and the new energy revolution, the employment situation of engineering university graduates is also changing. During the summer vacation, the "Job Talk" team of the School of Computer Science and Technology of Soochow University, led by the instructor, went deep into many technology companies in Suzhou and carried out a one-month research activity.
This survey focused on the supply-demand contradiction of the difficulty for college graduates to find jobs and the difficulty for enterprises to recruit workers. Through face-to-face interviews with corporate HR and front-line R&D personnel, in-depth research on corporate needs and recruitment status, and questionnaires distributed to college students, we have gained an in-depth understanding of the overlap and deviation between contemporary college students' professional skills and job search directions. The team independently developed a job matching system, aggregated and analyzed user information, constructed an employment knowledge map, and provided graduates with accurate employment information that matched their actual employment capabilities, achieving a win-win situation for employment choices and employment needs, promoting high-quality and full employment for college graduates, and promoting the optimization and upgrading of the employment market.
To ensure the comprehensiveness and accuracy of the survey, the "Zhishuo" team consulted a large amount of literature and constructed a preliminary framework for the employability of engineering college students. Based on this, they designed two sets of online questionnaires for college students and employers, as well as a detailed outline for corporate survey interviews. The questionnaire covers the current status of employability, job search intentions, job awareness, employment advice and other aspects, aiming to comprehensively collect information and feedback from both parties.
During the survey, the team members received valid questionnaires from 174 engineering college students, and conducted online and offline interviews with a number of Internet, information technology, artificial intelligence, and industrial software companies in Suzhou, accumulating rich sample data for the survey.
Graduate employment concerns students and their families, and has received widespread attention from the society. The survey found that engineering college students performed well in theoretical knowledge reserves, but they still lacked practical operations and the ability to deal with complex problems. Everyone generally hopes to improve their employment competitiveness by improving professional skills and accumulating practical experience, but some students do not have a deep understanding of industry development trends and job requirements, which leads to a certain degree of blindness in the job search process. At the same time, companies generally value the academic qualifications, professional background, work experience and personal moral qualities of engineering graduates. However, some graduates pay too much attention to professional ability in the job search process and ignore the cultivation of some soft power.
Based on the survey findings, the "Zhishuo" team preliminarily compiled the "Summer Social Practice Research Report on the Employment Ability Evaluation and Job Recommendation System for Engineering College Students Based on Knowledge Graph", analyzed the contradiction between supply and demand in the current employment market, and put forward a series of suggestions and measures. In addition, the team used computer expertise such as big data and deep learning to independently develop an intelligent job matching system to provide graduates with personalized employment guidance and accurate job recommendations, realizing the transformation from "people looking for jobs" to "jobs looking for people".
The "Zhi Shuo" team believes that improving the employability of engineering college students requires joint efforts from colleges and universities, students, and employers. Colleges and universities should deepen industry-university-research cooperation, optimize the curriculum system, and strengthen practical teaching; students need to maintain their enthusiasm for learning, broaden their horizons, and improve their comprehensive quality; and companies need to strengthen cooperation with colleges and universities to jointly cultivate high-quality talents that meet market demand. Through the joint efforts of the three parties, the "Zhi Shuo" team hopes to inject new vitality into the employment market for engineering students, draw a beautiful employment blueprint, and write a chapter of youth who take responsibility for China's modernization.
