【Key words】Quality characteristics of general high school education
In December 2021, the Ministry of Education issued the "Guidelines for the Evaluation of the Quality of General High Schools", proposing that "while paying attention to the overall effectiveness of the school's comprehensive education and the comprehensive development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, we should pay attention to differences and diversity, pay attention to the development of school characteristics and the development of students' personality, and effectively prevent the practice of measuring different schools with "one ruler", and promote the diversified and distinctive development of general high schools." I strongly agree with this. As early as September 2017, I was appointed as the party secretary and principal of Shenzhen Guangming District Senior High School (hereinafter referred to as "Guanggao"), a national model general high school in Guangdong Province, and put forward the school-running philosophy of "respecting individual lifelong development". Respecting students' personality and developing personalized education is the concrete manifestation of the diversified development and distinctive development of high schools in educating people.
School education should guide students to pursue their own light, so that their potential can be fully stimulated and their specialties can be fully developed. To this end, schools need to create a diverse development platform and personalized development space for students. The school's educational characteristics will naturally form in the process of providing students with personalized education.
Clubs are a collection of students with different specialties and personalized development needs. Guanggao has opened eight types of club courses, including science and technology, public welfare, practice, sports, and specialties. There are 35 club organizations in the school.
According to the different needs of students and the resource advantages of the school, we have also set up four administrative departments, namely the Art Center, the Science and Technology Innovation Center, the Sports Center and the International Center. Their functions are to explore students' potential through curriculum development and activities, build personalized platforms and tracks, guide students to choose subjects and courses, and make good academic plans. Taking the Art Center as an example, the school has 23 full-time art teachers, two independent art buildings, more than 60 piano rooms, 12 art classrooms, and 3 dance studios, which provide guarantee conditions for deeply tapping students' artistic talents. In order to implement targeted teaching, the school conducts art class teaching in modules in the first semester of the first year of high school. Each module offers 8 courses such as music appreciation, art appreciation, watercolor and oil painting, calligraphy, performance, singing, drama and dance, allowing students to choose according to their own interests and hobbies. When the school gives students the right to choose, students become extremely serious. They comprehensively and meticulously analyze their foundation, specialties and interests, and carefully choose module courses. This is a trust and growth for students.
To promote the characteristic and diversified development of high schools, we must follow the "Overall Plan for Deepening the Reform of Education Evaluation in the New Era" and abandon the high school quality evaluation method that unilaterally pursues the college entrance examination admission rate and the student evaluation method that "only focuses on scores". To this end, Guanggao implements student subject literacy assessment and student personalized self-cognition evaluation, and uses AI technology and big data analysis to enable each student to clearly understand their own strengths and weaknesses, so as to prepare for the subsequent adaptive development and selection of personalized training directions.
We often say that students at Guangming High School "will shine brightly with a little sunshine", and the school's characteristic development and personalized education are to provide students with "sunshine" and the energy for development. The school should create a platform to give students the opportunity to obtain a variety of learning resources, including books, documents, multimedia materials, online courses, etc., so that students can carry out personalized learning according to their own learning needs and interests.
