The auxiliary road and the space under the bridge were still under intense construction, but because reasonable guidance measures were set up, road traffic was not significantly affected.
Why is the already built Shuangxin Bridge being renovated? Ai Le, the engineering director of the Yaojiayuan North Street project of the First Public Transportation Group, said that the original Shuangxin Bridge passage at the intersection of Yaojiayuan North Street and the East Fourth Ring Road was 7 meters wide and had a height limit of 3.5 meters. After the opening of Beijing Chaoyang Station, during peak hours in the morning and evening and holidays, when there was a large passenger flow at Chaoyang Station, it was very easy to cause queues and congestion on the East Fourth Ring Road connecting the Chaoyang Station entry and exit platforms, and even affected the traffic capacity of Chaoyang Park Bridge and Dongfeng North Bridge.
The Shuangxin Bridge renovation and upgrading project is 680 meters long, mainly to ease the traffic pressure in the area. The East Fourth Ring Road section will be transformed into a diamond-shaped interchange, the main road will be raised in the longitudinal section and cross Yaojiayuan North Street, and there will be an interchange under the bridge, which will improve the safety and convenience of pedestrians and non-motor vehicles. "Before, there was only a 10-meter-wide bridge hole under the Shuangxin Bridge, and it was a two-way single lane. It was extremely difficult to turn around in both directions, which easily caused traffic congestion. After the renovation, the bridge was widened from 10 meters to 210 meters. Because the space is large enough, two U-turn lanes are set up, which will greatly ease traffic congestion." Wang Biheng, chief engineer of the Yaojiayuan North Street Section 1 project of China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau, introduced. While renovating the main road, the auxiliary road of Shuangxin Bridge on the East Fourth Ring Road will be renovated simultaneously. The auxiliary road will be widened to a one-way two-lane road. The auxiliary road on the west side of the East Fourth Ring Road will be renovated for 2.1 kilometers, and the auxiliary road on the east side of the East Fourth Ring Road will be renovated for 2.2 kilometers.
As an important road connecting Beijing Chaoyang Station and Beijing city, Shuangxin Bridge will bear the main traffic volume in and out of Beijing Chaoyang Station after the "upgrade". Traffic transfer will be further accelerated, effectively improving traffic order and congestion. Entering and exiting Chaoyang Station will be more convenient and faster, improving residents' travel experience and quality.
