The list of top 50 Chinese logistics companies in 2024 has been released.
Judging from the distribution of the top 50 cities alone, Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou are still the top three.
However, the pattern of "the strong get stronger" has loosened this year, and the number of top 50 cities in the above three cities has decreased compared with last year.
Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, where free shipping was often not available for shopping due to a lack of shipping costs and speed advantages, also have companies shortlisted in the top 50 this year.
The top 20 have also changed. The companies that were on the list last year from Hangzhou, Xi'an and Tianjin are no longer on the list. Instead, they are replaced by companies from Wuhan, Taiyuan, Jining and Yibin.
Nowadays, logistics is accelerating, and logistics companies at the center of the torrent are also changing with each passing day.
Behind this list, how will my country's logistics landscape be rewritten? Will the strong always remain strong, or will the latecomers catch up?

According to the list released by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the top four logistics companies this year are the same as last year.
Still: China Ocean Shipping Group Co., Ltd. from Shanghai, Xiamen Xiangyu Co., Ltd. from Fujian, SF Holding Co., Ltd. from Shenzhen, Guangdong, and Beijing Jingbangda Trading Co., Ltd.
However, compared with the dominance of giants last year, the gap in logistics business revenue among the top four has narrowed in recent years.
Among them, the business revenue of ocean shipping was 331.873 billion yuan, a sharp decline compared with last year's 575.94 billion yuan, but still ranked first.
Xiamen Xiangyu, which ranks second, had logistics business revenue of 275.421 billion yuan this year, a slight increase from 269.074 billion yuan last year.
SF Express maintained its third place with logistics business revenue of 251.128 billion yuan, but it was still a decline of about 10 billion yuan compared with last year.
Jingbangda, ranked fourth, is the company with the largest increase in logistics business revenue among the top four. This year, its logistics business revenue reached 166.625 billion yuan, an increase of 29.223 billion yuan over last year.
At this point, the gap in logistics business revenue among my country's top three logistics companies has narrowed from 313.86 billion yuan last year to 80.745 billion yuan this year.
Last year, the third-placed SF Express’s logistics revenue was nearly twice that of the fourth-placed Jingbangda. This year, the gap between the two has narrowed to 84.5 billion yuan.
The front row fault is bridged.
If we take a longer-term view, we will find that my country's logistics landscape has also undergone great changes in regions.
In 2014, the top three provinces (municipalities) in terms of the number of top 50 logistics companies in the country were: Beijing (22 companies), Jiangsu (5 companies), and Shanghai (4 companies).
It was obvious that at that time, the North China region represented by Beijing was the leader in my country's logistics industry.
Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai account for 11 seats in the “free shipping zone” (two companies from Zhejiang are on the list), but this is only half of Beijing’s. However, at this time, Jiangsu and Shanghai are still evenly matched.
Ten years later, among this year's top 50 companies, Shanghai has the largest number of companies, with 11, followed by Beijing with 6 seats, and then Zhejiang with 4.
The province (municipality) with strong logistics has long changed hands.

Unlike the situation ten years ago when Beijing was the only dominant city, logistics companies are now more evenly distributed in the east and west.
In terms of the number of logistics companies, Shanghai seems to have come from behind. However, there has been a downward trend in recent years. From 2022 to 2024, the number of Shanghai's top 50 logistics companies will be 14, 12, and 11 respectively.
Compared with 2014, the overall situation in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai is not optimistic. Jiangsu, which ranked second in the country in terms of number that year, has not been on the list for two consecutive years except for one company in the top 50 in 2022.
There are no Zhejiang companies among the top 20 logistics companies this year.
The monopoly of the "free shipping zones" in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai has begun to loosen, but the former "non-free shipping zones" have shown signs of rising.
Among the top 50 logistics companies this year, there are two new faces: China Petroleum Kunlun Logistics Co., Ltd. from Urumqi, Xinjiang, and Baotou Iron and Steel (Group) Tiejie Logistics Co., Ltd. from Baotou, Inner Mongolia.
In the past, due to their remote locations, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia had no advantages in shipping costs and speeds, and were once listed as "areas without free shipping", and online shoppers had to bear the shipping costs themselves.
Now, these two autonomous regions, which are often ridiculed for their inconvenient logistics, have their own famous logistics companies.
Among them, Baotou Iron and Steel (Group) Tiejie Logistics Co., Ltd. was shortlisted for the top 50 national logistics companies in 2022, ranking 47th. It was shortlisted again this year, and its ranking rose to 43rd.
China Petroleum Kunlun Logistics Co., Ltd. has an even stronger momentum.
It was not on the top 50 list in the previous three years, but this year it made its debut with an excellent performance of 20.33 billion yuan in logistics business revenue and ranked 22nd in the country.
Not only that, western provinces such as Sichuan, Guangxi, Shaanxi, and Yunnan, which had no strong logistics companies 10 years ago, have also had companies appearing on the top 50 logistics companies list in the past two years.
This year, a company from Yibin, Sichuan even made it into the top 20 in the country.
The trend of decline in the east and rise in the west is obvious.
However, unlike Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, which have risen thanks to private enterprises such as "Three Links and One Delivery", most of the logistics companies in the western region that have made the top 50 list in recent years are still dominated by state-owned enterprises.

Let’s take a look at the distribution of large logistics companies in various cities.
Among the top 20, 8 are in Shanghai, 4 are in Beijing, 2 are in Xiamen, and there is 1 each in Shenzhen, Dalian, Taiyuan, Wuhan, Jining and Yibin.

Two companies from the central region made it into the top 20 this year.In 2014, only one company from central China made the list: Henan Energy Group Guolong Logistics Co., Ltd.
Among the two central Chinese companies on the list this year, Huayuan International Land Port Group Co., Ltd. in Taiyuan, Shanxi, ranked 14th, up 10 places from last year.
Last year, Huayuan International Land Port Group seemed to have "come out of nowhere" and ranked 24th in the country when it first appeared on the list.
Hubei Communications Investment Logistics Group Co., Ltd. from Wuhan ranked 17th this year.
This is the fifth consecutive year that Hubei Communications Investment and Logistics has been listed in the top 50, and has made further progress in the ranking: it ranked 29th in the country in 2022, up 5 places from the previous year, and this year it has advanced 12 places from last year.
In addition to their excellent performance in ranking, the two companies also achieved impressive progress in logistics revenue.
This year, the logistics business revenues of Huayuan International Land Port Group and Hubei Communications Investment Logistics Group were 37.357 billion yuan and 30.025 billion yuan respectively, both doubling from last year.
In fact,This is also the first time in recent years that a Wuhan company has been shortlisted in the top 20.
In recent years, Wuhan's modern logistics industry has maintained a development trend.
In addition to local leading enterprises such as Hubei Communications Investment and Logistics Group, other enterprises in the top 20 also have layouts in Wuhan:
As early as 2011, JD.com decided to invest in the construction of its Central China regional headquarters and Central China logistics base in Wuhan.
In 2018, COSCO Shipping Ports Wuhan Co., Ltd. was established, with China COSCO Shipping Group Co., Ltd. holding a 70% stake.
In 2021, China COSCO Shipping's ocean-going cold chain new retail supply chain industrial park started construction in Dongxihu District, Wuhan.
In 2022, Chuxiang Supply Chain Group, a supply chain service platform jointly built by Xiamen Xiangyu and Hubei, was unveiled in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone.
In 2023, the Central China regional headquarters of SF Fengtai (a wholly-owned subsidiary of SF Holding) will be settled in Qingshan District, Wuhan.
Earlier, SF Express had invested in the construction of Huahu International Airport in Ezhou, close to Wuhan.
In March of this year, the country's largest single logistics operation center, YTO Express Central China Transshipment Warehousing and Logistics Center, officially started construction in Wuhan.
In fact, whether it is the increase in strong logistics companies in the western region or the increase in the layout of leading companies in the central region, it reflects the general trend of national logistics: the former monopoly pattern no longer exists, and the distribution of logistics companies is moving towards balance.
