electric vehicles were one of the earliest members of the family of automobiles that emerged during the industrial revolution more than a hundred years ago. the world's first electric car was born in the united states in 1834. it was a three-wheeled car powered by non-rechargeable dry batteries.
however, this "new star" soon failed in long-distance driving due to technical limitations. the internal combustion engine car quickly took over and began a century-long reign.
the wheel of history is rolling forward, and technologies that adapt to the needs of the times are reborn again. with the global demand for clean energy and the awakening of environmental protection awareness, zero-emission new energy vehicles are once again in the spotlight. anhui's new energy vehicles have also taken the first step in the trend of the times and taken a bold step.
stand at the origin
time goes back to the early 1990s.
in 1992, china's automobile production exceeded 1 million units, ranking among the top ten in the world's automobile production.
it was this year that a letter from academician qian xuesen opened the door to china's new energy vehicle research and development - he suggested that the country develop electric vehicle projects.
the research and development of new projects requires cutting-edge talents. at that time, wan gang, who had studied and worked in germany for many years, was invited to return to china and be responsible for the research and development of new energy projects.
in 1995, china produced its first new energy vehicle, the "yuanwang". this pure electric bus marks my country's first step in the field of new energy vehicles and has become the pioneer of new energy vehicles in china.
the fuel cell vehicle r&d team of tongji university led by wan gang soon successfully developed china's first fuel cell vehicle "beyond one" and began demonstration operations. this is a milestone in the history of chinese electric vehicles.
at that time, the seeds of new energy vehicles began to "germinate" in jianghuai.
at this stage, like the whole of china, anhui is mainly engaged in research and development of new energy vehicles. r&d mainly relies on the scientific research strength of universities.
the starting point of anhui's car manufacturing can be said to be hefei university of technology. this university, known as the "huangpu military academy in the automotive field", has produced founders and executives of many major automobile manufacturers such as dongfeng, baic, chery, jac, etc. it is also one of the first places in hefei to start new energy vehicle research and development.
in the 1990s, zhao han, a professor at hegong university of science and technology, was "innovating" at the school and converted fuel vehicles into electric vehicles. since then, he has also served as the dean of the school of mechanical and automotive engineering of hefei university of technology and the vice president of hefei university of technology, helping hefei and even anhui determine the main direction of electric vehicles relatively early.
starting from zhao han, batches of hegong teachers and students have devoted themselves to the research and development of new energy vehicle technology, and they have also produced "report cards" that they can be proud of - in 1999, a large hegong team developed the first-generation pure electric car; in 2004, another successfully developed the second generation pure electric sedan.
go all out for transformation
hefei university of technology’s research and development path goes far beyond that. in 2001, hefei university of technology and chery jointly undertook the national "863" project to jointly develop hybrid cars; in 2006, they jointly developed a fuel cell hybrid supercapacitor city bus with ankai automobile company.
anhui automobile companies are also starting to embark on their new energy journey.
still going back to the 1990s, anhui's automobile industry began to transform and upgrade. a number of car companies emerged out of nowhere and quickly emerged in the country.
in 1994, feihe automobile manufacturing plant successfully developed my country's first full-load luxury bus, the anhui kesbauer. in 1995, feihe automobile manufacturing factory was renamed anhui ankai group co., ltd.
ankai, which focuses on buses, will also set its sights on new energy in the next decade or so. in 2010, 30 ankai pure electric buses were put into public transportation operation, becoming the world's first dedicated pure electric bus line.
at the 2024 paris olympics, 31 units of the world's first convertible pure electric double-decker bus produced by ankai brought a new experience to tourists from all over the world "checking in" for the paris olympics.
another automobile company was established in 1994, namely anhui feihu automobile group with huaihai machinery factory as its core. its output exceeded 20,000 units that year, making it the largest automobile company in anhui at that time.
fast forward to 1997, when jac and chery were established one after another, creating the future situation of anhui automobile "two heroes".
at that time, chery was still a fledgling company, but it was one of the first domestic car companies to deploy new energy vehicles. in 1999, chery established the "clean energy vehicle task force" to be responsible for the research and development of cutting-edge technologies for clean energy vehicles such as hybrid vehicles and alternative fuel vehicles. today, fang yunzhou, the founder of hezhong automobile (nezha automobile), is an important member of the project team.
at the end of 2001, chery's new energy vehicle research and development project was successfully selected into the national "863" program. in 2003, the first new energy vehicle independently developed by chery officially rolled off the assembly line. in 2008, chery provided 58 hybrid cars as service vehicles for the beijing olympics, with obvious fuel-saving effects.
in 2009, chery's clean energy vehicle special group was officially transformed into "chery new energy" and became an independent subsidiary of chery. fang yunzhou served as deputy general manager and concurrently as director of the hybrid power department of chery automobile central research institute.
after exploring and trying in the new energy vehicle market, a few years later, a "premium intelligent pure electric car" - little ant was launched and achieved unexpected success. this also determined the development route of chery new energy in the next few years. .
historical opportunity
in 1994, my country defined the automobile industry as a pillar industry of the national economy for the first time. china's exploration of the new energy automobile industry almost began during this period. anhui is at the forefront.
in 2000, electric vehicles were included in one of the 12 major projects of the “863” plan. since 2001, the "863" project has invested a total of 2 billion yuan in research and development funds, forming a "three verticals" with three technical routes: pure electric, gasoline-electric hybrid, and fuel cells, with power batteries, drive motors, and powertrain control systems. the three common technologies form the "three horizontal" electric vehicle research and development pattern.
in 2004, the "automotive industry development policy" was issued to guide and encourage the development of energy-saving and environmentally friendly small-displacement vehicles and new fuel vehicles. in 2007, the "new energy vehicle production access management rules" were promulgated, kicking off the standardized management of the industry.
2009 is another milestone year for chinese automobiles. this year, china's total annual automobile production exceeded 10 million units, becoming the world's largest automobile manufacturer and largest automobile market.
in january of the same year, the ministry of science and technology, the ministry of finance, the national development and reform commission, and the ministry of industry and information technology jointly launched the "ten cities thousand vehicles project", which is known as the "ten cities thousand vehicles demonstration, promotion and application project of energy-saving and new energy vehicles" , by providing financial subsidies, it plans to develop 10 cities every year in about three years, and launch 1,000 new energy vehicles in each city to carry out demonstration operations, involving public transportation, rentals, official services, municipal administration, postal services and other fields in these large and medium-sized cities , striving to make the operation scale of new energy vehicles nationwide account for 10% of the automobile market share by 2012.
that year, ankai bus, which had successfully been listed on the market, was eager to give it a try and took the initiative to find the hefei municipal party committee and municipal government and asked the government to take the lead in filing the application.
under the leadership of the hefei municipal science and technology bureau, a promotion plan prepared by ankai, guoxuan high-tech and other units was quickly produced and implemented quickly. hefei became one of the first 13 cities to receive "ten cities with thousand vehicles" project.
on january 23, 2010, 30 ankai pure electric buses were officially put into operation on route 18. this marks the opening of the world's first pure electric bus route in hefei.
not long after pure electric buses started running, four ministries and commissions issued notices to launch a pilot subsidy program for private purchases of new energy vehicles. for new energy vehicles that meet the support conditions, a subsidy of 3,000 yuan/kwh will be provided. the maximum subsidy for each plug-in hybrid passenger car is 50,000 yuan, and the maximum subsidy for each pure electric passenger car is 60,000 yuan. hefei has also won the pilot program for private purchase of new energy vehicles, becoming one of the six "dual pilot" cities in the country.
on april 17, 2011, 585 pure electric tongyue sedans from jac motors entered the private car market in batches, creating the largest demonstration operation in china and even the world in the field of private purchase of new energy vehicles.
although there are still many difficulties in actual operation, hefei, which started relatively quickly, became a typical promotion city together with beijing, shenzhen, hangzhou and shanghai in subsequent rounds of new energy vehicle promotion pilots.
in a situation that has not seen major changes in a century, anhui seized the opportunity to enter the new energy track and achieve overtaking in corners. anhui's new energy vehicles have also begun to enter a stage of magnificent and rapid development.
