shi banyu, whose real name is shi renmao, was born in taiwan, china on march 9, 1958. his ancestral home is guilin, guangxi. he started to enter the dubbing industry in 1985 and studied under chen mingyang, who is known as the "taiwanese dubbing emperor".

his collaboration with stephen chow began with the 1990 film god of gamblers. at the time, stephen chow's character in the film needed a mandarin dubbing, so someone recommended shi banyu. stephen chow was very satisfied with shi banyu's dubbing and asked him to continue dubbing for him, and thus the two began to collaborate.

shi banyu's representative dubbing works include "god of gamblers", "gundam academy" and "young and dangerous". he has dubbed more than 300 film and television dramas since he started his career, including the classic tv series "legend of the white snake", in which shi banyu dubbed 16 characters.
