in the autumn of 2017, the three unified textbooks were officially put into use nationwide. this is the first time they have been revised in the seven years since they were put into use.

after more than two years, the revision of the unified textbooks for the three subjects has been completed.

this fall semester, the revised textbooks will be put into use in the first grade of primary school and the first grade of junior high school; in 2025, they will be used in the first, second, and third grades of primary school and the first and second grades of junior high school; and in 2026, all grades in the compulsory education stage will be replaced.

so why the revision?

the editorial committee is responsible for the macro-design and framework planning of the textbook, while the revision group is responsible for the specific implementation and writing. this arrangement ensures that every change in the textbook is taken into consideration.ideological, scientific and appropriate。

one of the outstanding features of the revised textbooks is that they are distinctly contemporary. for example, the seventh-grade chinese textbook has added a new article, "the light of youth," which tells the story of huang wenxiu. this is a text created specifically for the new textbook.

the newly revised chinese textbooks have also made further improvements in terms of traditional culture. the editors have proofread each ancient poem and essay in the textbooks, selected more authoritative versions, and adjusted and improved the annotations.the chinese textbooks for nine grades in the compulsory education stage include a total of 353 selected articles on china's excellent traditional culture.

in the newly revised chinese textbooks, a “sorting and communication” section has been added to primary school grades, a “comprehensive reading practice” has been added to junior high school grades, and the writing topics have been adjusted.

in order to better test the suitability of the textbooks, in the second half of 2023, the ministry of education organized more than 550 schools, more than 2,000 teachers, and more than 100,000 students across the country to conduct trial teaching and trial use, and organized 500 key primary and secondary school teachers and teaching researchers to conduct detailed review. the chinese teacher of beijing fangcaodi international school tried to teach the first unit of the sixth grade second semester.

textbooks reflect the will of the state, and the three unified textbooks are extremely important. before being issued, the three unified textbooks have undergone multiple rounds of strict review to ensure their political, scientific and appropriate nature.

mo jingqi, deputy director of the curriculum and teaching materials research institute:we relied on four special committees for the integration of moral education in universities, middle schools and primary schools, language, history, and ideology and politics to review the textbooks, which reached 19 rounds, and 211 experts participated in the review. after the expert committee passed the review, it was reported to the national textbook committee for review according to the procedures.
