thank you for the invitation from the organizer. i just learned about the alcohol-hydrogen electric commercial vehicle products released by geely yuancheng. on the one hand, i would like to congratulate you, and on the other hand, i have gained a lot. at present, the hundred people's association is also doing research on alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles. i am very happy to take this opportunity to share our views with you. the title of my speech today is "welcome to the new era of alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicle development".
since its establishment 10 years ago, china electric vehicle hundred people's association has been committed to exploring and promoting the electrification and intelligent development of china's automobiles. we are very happy to see that china's new energy vehicles have made great progress. from january to july this year, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in china reached 36.4%. of course, we cannot ignore the bottlenecks in the electrification process. for example, commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses, are the difficulties in the electrification of automobiles. at present, the penetration rate of new energy in commercial vehicles is only 16%. there are three main reasons for this situation. first, the use scenarios of commercial vehicles are complex and diverse, and the requirements for vehicle functions, performance, and reliability are very high. the current electrification technology solutions cannot fully meet the needs. second, as a production tool, commercial vehicle users have high requirements for economy. at present, whether it is battery prices, hydrogen prices, second-hand car prices, or the decline in transportation income caused by the large size and weight of related parts, they have seriously restricted the marketization of electric commercial vehicles. third, it is inconvenient to replenish energy. whether it is charging, battery replacement or hydrogen refueling, the energy replenishment infrastructure faces problems in site, grid load, operating costs, etc., resulting in a serious lack of energy replenishment convenience, especially difficult to meet the needs of heavy commercial vehicles.
from the perspective of energy conservation, commercial vehicles account for a high proportion in terms of both fuel consumption and emissions of pollutants such as carbon dioxide. commercial vehicles mainly powered by diesel account for more than 70% of oil consumption, more than 50% of carbon dioxide emissions, and more than 80% of particulate matter emissions. so how to solve the contradiction between the urgency of commercial vehicle new energy and the development bottleneck? we believe that alcohol-hydrogen electric is a feasible technical route.
first of all, alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles are a type of extended-range vehicles, not the so-called "third route" besides electric and fuel cells. extended-range vehicles are a type of new energy vehicle that has long been generally recognized by the government and the industry, and alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles are an innovative technology application of extended-range electric vehicles.
the research, development and demonstration application of methanol fuel and automobiles have always been supported by relevant national ministries and commissions, and a series of standards and support policies have been issued. in 2021, the ministry of industry and information technology proposed in the "14th five-year plan for industrial green development" to "vigorously develop and promote new energy vehicles, and promote the promotion of alternative fuel vehicles such as methanol vehicles". in 2022, the ministry of transport and the ministry of science and technology proposed in the "14th five-year plan for science and technology innovation in the transportation field" to promote the application of new energy and clean energy such as liquefied natural gas, methanol, ammonia energy, biomass energy, and hydrogen energy. in september 2023, the national standard "m100 methanol fuel for vehicles" was implemented. in december 2023, the national development and reform commission revised and issued the "guidelines for industrial structure adjustment (2024 edition)", adding "electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide catalytic synthesis of green methanol" to the complementary power generation technologies and application fields of new energy encouraged industries. at present, alcohol hydrogen electric vehicle products have entered the "catalogue of energy-saving new energy vehicle models enjoying vehicle and vessel tax reduction and exemption" and the "catalogue of new energy vehicle models with vehicle purchase tax reduction and exemption".
second, alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles can solve most of the bottleneck problems currently faced in the electrification process of commercial vehicles.
compared with pure electric models, alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles can meet the requirements of various scenarios, and have long battery life, high reliability and high adaptability to extreme environments, especially in scenarios such as plateaus, high cold, heavy load uphill, mines, and engineering operations. compared with hydrogen fuel cell models, the storage, transportation, and refueling of methanol are more efficient and safe, avoiding the safety and cost issues of hydrogen storage and transportation. alcohol-hydrogen electric commercial vehicles have obvious advantages in economy, and the purchase cost is similar to that of diesel vehicles, which is significantly lower than that of pure electric and hydrogen fuel cell models. at the same time, due to the stable and low price of methanol in my country, the cost of using alcohol-hydrogen electric commercial vehicles can save 0.5 to 1 yuan per kilometer compared with diesel vehicles, which is much lower than hydrogen fuel cell models. in addition, the residual value of used alcohol-hydrogen electric commercial vehicles is relatively high, which improves the tco level from the perspective of asset preservation.
alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles also have obvious advantages in environmental protection. methanol fuel not only reduces carbon dioxide emissions, but also significantly reduces emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.
third, methanol refueling facilities are highly efficient and low-cost to build, and can enable the rapid deployment of commercial vehicle refueling networks.
since methanol fuel is liquid at room temperature and pressure, and its physical properties are similar to those of gasoline and diesel, the storage and transportation cost of methanol is only 1/30 of that of hydrogen, which allows large-scale, low-cost transportation and storage. compared with charging and swapping stations and hydrogen refueling stations, the construction of methanol refueling stations has obvious cost advantages. the existing diesel allocation, storage, transportation and refueling infrastructure can be transformed into methanol refueling stations at low cost and high efficiency. the transformation cost is about 100,000 yuan, which greatly reduces the investment recovery period of new energy refueling facilities, making it possible to quickly build a refueling network for electric commercial vehicles.
fourth, the application of green methanol will become an important carrier for the development of china's new energy industry.
methanol has green and renewable properties. green methanol can realize the resource utilization of carbon dioxide, which is helpful for carbon reduction and decarbonization. it has gradually become an ideal new clean renewable fuel recognized by the global industry. the raw materials for methanol production are very rich. coal, coke oven gas, coalbed methane, natural gas, biomass and carbon dioxide can all be used to produce methanol. based on "double carbon", with technological improvements and scale effects, methanol production can gradually transition from low carbon to zero carbon. coal-to-methanol and renewable energy electrolysis water hydrogen production technology can achieve near-zero emissions in the methanol production process. every ton of methanol produced can consume about 1.4 tons of co2, which is the development direction of the coal chemical industry towards high-end and low-carbonization.
green methanol is also the best carrier for wind and solar power energy storage. using wind and solar power to produce hydrogen and methanol on-site can not only solve the problem of stable use of renewable energy, but also convert unstable electricity into stable liquid methanol, opening up new ways for green electricity application and on-site consumption.
we have the following three suggestions for the promotion of alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles:
first, we hope that government departments and state-owned enterprises at all levels can truly grant qualifications and rights in terms of access, license plate registration, procurement, subsidies, road rights, etc. to alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles, and give alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles the status of new energy vehicles. open the door for the promotion of alcohol-hydrogen electric commercial vehicles in the transportation and logistics industry as soon as possible;
the second is to promote the construction of methanol refueling infrastructure. in august 2024, the state council issued the "opinions on accelerating the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development", and methanol refueling stations were officially included in the green transportation infrastructure network. it is hoped that with the help of the "opinions", the leading management department of refueling stations will be clarified as soon as possible, and the construction of methanol refueling stations will be jointly promoted with alcohol-making enterprises, vehicle manufacturers, and operating companies to form a network as soon as possible, which will not only provide support for the rapid promotion of alcohol-hydrogen electric commercial vehicles, but also provide a fast and low-cost solution for the green transformation of traditional gas stations;
third, we hope that vehicle manufacturers, supply chain companies, and logistics companies will actively participate in the development, manufacturing, and use of alcohol-hydrogen electric technology products, rapidly expand the scale of the industry, reduce manufacturing and use costs, and thus accelerate the process of commercial vehicle new energy. we are very pleased to see that in addition to geely yuancheng, commercial vehicle companies such as faw jiefang, weichai, yuchai, and shaanxi automobile are also developing related products.
dear leaders and guests, daqing is the starting point for new china to achieve energy independence, and alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicles, as an important entry point for new energy applications, will also provide new opportunities for the new energy of commercial vehicles, the development of china's new energy industry, and the green transformation of daqing's traditional energy base. let us welcome the arrival of a new era of alcohol-hydrogen electric vehicle development.
