On July 18, Nandu reporter learned from the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation that IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will recall IKEA brand VARMFRONT Wang Furong mobile power banks, totaling 253 units. The reason for the recall is that the product may overheat during use, posing a potential risk of melting or self-limiting spontaneous combustion. On the same day, an IKEA official responded to Nandu reporter that the recall is ongoing and will assist consumers with full refunds or exchanges.

The Shanghai Municipal Market Supervision Administration issued a recall announcement stating that IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will recall a total of 253 IKEA brand VARMFRONT mobile power supplies produced from March 2023 to May 2023 from July 17 to October 16.

The announcement shows that the reason for the recall is that the product may overheat during use, posing a potential risk of melting or self-limiting spontaneous combustion. Consumers should stop using the product immediately, and IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will provide customers with a full return or exchange.

On the same day, an IKEA official responded to the Southern Metropolis Daily reporter that IKEA had released the recall information at 14:00 on the 17th through various channels including the official website, member text messages, and in-store communications. The official said that the recall is ongoing and will assist consumers with full refunds or exchanges.

Afterwards, the Nandu reporter called IKEA's customer service hotline, and the customer service staff said, "IKEA follows strict risk assessment and testing procedures in the process of developing products to ensure that products have no quality issues before they are put on the market. However, there are very few deviations in the manufacturing process, which may cause some products to have certain safety hazards." For this reason, IKEA recalled the products involved and issued exchanges and refunds.

The above-mentioned customer service said that consumers can go to offline stores to find staff to assist with processing with shopping receipts or electronic consumption records.

Nandu previously reported that according to the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation on January 11, IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. recalled 3,008 IKEA ASKSTORM 40W USB chargers. The reason for the recall is that the power cord may be worn and continued use may pose a potential risk of burns or electric shock.

On the same evening, an IKEA official told Nandu reporters that the product had been discontinued before the recall, and consumers can contact any IKEA store or customer service center for returns and refunds without showing shopping receipts.
