Recently, many places have rectified meaningless duty and guard duty, reduced the burden on the grassroots, and made it clear that teachers should not be arranged to be on duty when there are no students in school. For example, Anyang, Henan Province requires that during statutory holidays, weekends, winter and summer vacations when there are no students in school, school leaders should be in charge of the class and guards should be on duty 24 hours a day. In principle, teachers should not be arranged to be on duty; Aksu Prefecture in Xinjiang has made clear the "five norms and five prohibitions" to reduce the burden on teachers, standardize campus duty and guard duty, and comprehensively clean up the meaningless duty and guard duty on campus.

For front-line teachers, these measures can free them from formal duty tasks and enable them to better complete their teaching work.

Although safety is no small matter, generally speaking, primary and secondary schools in various places have full-time security guards and surveillance. It is meaningless to arrange front-line teachers to work during holidays when there are no students in the school. For urban schools with more teachers, it is okay for each teacher to work once or twice during the entire holiday, but for some schools with fewer staff, teachers need to take frequent shifts. Especially in remote schools, teachers often do not live in the local area, and they travel back and forth but not directly for students, which inevitably makes teachers complain.

Some duty arrangements that have no real meaning are justified in some places as enhancing teachers' sense of responsibility. There is also a saying called "double insurance". In order to complete the formal duty tasks, teachers on duty have to take photos and upload them to the work group to "leave a trace". These practices are obviously contrary to reducing the burden.

The Teachers Law clearly stipulates that teachers have the right to paid vacations during summer and winter vacations. Implementing this right is the proper respect and support for the teacher group. The local governments have introduced measures to reduce the burden on the grassroots and investigate and rectify the meaningless duty on primary and secondary school campuses, which is the responsibility to protect the rights and interests of teachers.

In addition to rectifying meaningless duty on holidays, some places may wish to learn from this and see what other formalism problems are plaguing teachers in primary and secondary schools. For example, in order to cope with various inspections, some schools require teachers to "perfect" various file records, and there must be complete borrowing registration for libraries that students have never entered, and there must be usage records for sports equipment that has never been touched. Similar practices that violate the laws of education and burden front-line teachers should also be investigated and corrected.

Mass supervision is an effective means to eradicate formalism. When assigning relevant work tasks, relevant grassroots departments and schools should better accept mass supervision, earnestly abide by the rules, respect teachers, and truly assume responsibility.
