australia and new zealand's new car safety rating system ancap announced on the 19th that all models in the new australian-spec toyota camry series have received a five-star safety rating.

ancap said that toyota camry performed well in the crash test, especially in the adult occupant protection part, achieving a record 95% performance, significantly ahead of all other models. among them, it received full marks in the side impact, oblique column impact, whiplash injury and far side impact tests, providing a high level of protection for the occupants. the camry also poses a low risk to oncoming vehicles, with only 0.96 points deducted in the mpdb (frontal offset) test (the full score is 8 points).

in the full-width frontal impact test, the camry received full marks for driver and rear passenger head and upper thigh protection, and received an "adequate" result for driver and rear passenger chest protection.

in terms of child occupant protection, the camry received an 87% rating. head protection for both child dummies was rated "good" in the frontal offset and side impact tests, while neck and chest protection for the 10-year-old dummy was rated "adequate" in the frontal offset test. all vehicles tested by ancap are evaluated for their ability to safely install a variety of child seats available in the australian and new zealand markets. the camry can successfully install most child seats, but a rear-facing infant seat cannot be installed in the outer rear seats, and a booster seat for children aged 4 to 8 years cannot be installed in the rear center seat.

under ancap's vulnerable road user protection standard, the camry received an 84% rating, indicating good protection for pedestrians, with full marks for pelvis, femur, knee and tibia protection. the camry's automatic emergency braking system (aeb) also showed effective performance in forward test scenarios, including turning and overtaking scenarios, and most collisions were avoided or mitigated. in addition, ancap emphasized that the camry's aeb system has a rear pedestrian detection function (aeb backover), but this function is not enabled by default, so no reverse test was conducted and no corresponding score was obtained.

in terms of safety assistance, the camry's lane assist system (lss) function received a perfect score, and all lss evaluation items received a "good" rating. the camry is equipped with a camera-based speed assistance system (i.e. toyota safety sense) and has advanced functions, including the vehicle's ability to recognize curves and reduce speed when using the acc cruise control system.
