on september 22, the 2024 world car-free day theme promotion event was held at the north square of beijing railway station. the reporter learned from the municipal transportation commission that in order to guide citizens to travel green, the city has continuously improved the quality of the slow-moving system, promoted the "three-network integration" of urban roads, garden greenways, and waterfront roads, and adopted comprehensive measures to regulate the parking order of non-motor vehicles, safeguard the right of way for slow-moving vehicles, and integrate cycling into the daily lives of citizens. on the day of the event, beijing launched the "learning, medical, landscape, and business" non-motor vehicle urban co-governance pilot.

green travel is the fundamental solution to traffic congestion in megacities. in recent years, the city has added trail systems, built barrier-free passages, improved convenience; optimized road sections, optimized traffic organization, and guaranteed the right of way for slow-moving people; promoted the construction of tree-lined roads, added cultural elements, strengthened space management, and improved the overall environment.

this year, the six urban districts and tongzhou district will complete the widening of 169 kilometers of non-motorized vehicle lanes, the addition of 12.7 kilometers of non-motorized vehicle lanes, and the installation of 201.5 kilometers of bicycle priority signs. we will promote the integration of water, road, and green networks, build a greenway slow-moving system for leisure and fitness, complete the construction of 40.2 kilometers of xishan greenway, the construction of the green belt area park ring greenway (chaoyang section phase i), implement "reducing fences and promoting connectivity" in 20 parks, carry out vacating and returning green areas, relieve greening, and plant green spaces wherever possible, and add 50 pocket parks or small green spaces.

in terms of waterfront slow-moving system construction, we will promote the construction of the slow-moving system of the qinghe laohewan ecological governance project. this year, we will complete the construction of a 4.3-kilometer waterfront greenway that combines walking and cycling, and complete the 5-kilometer waterfront slow-moving system construction project on both sides of the nanhan river. we will complete the construction of the beiyuan and wenyu river three-network integration demonstration areas, and realize the "water, road, and green" three-network regional microcirculation. at present, the main project of the 13.8-kilometer river patrol road slow-moving system renovation on both sides of the liangshui river (yongsheng bridge-jiugong bridge) has been completed.

with the successful application of the central axis for world heritage status, "central axis cycling" has become a new fashion. dongcheng district has improved the environmental quality along chang'an avenue and in-depth areas around the core area's "two axes, one city, and one ring", improved the environment and traffic order around beijing railway station and major hospitals, opened up dead-end roads, improved the road network, and optimized regional slow traffic organization. the second ring road scenic loop organically integrates green, water, city, and road, and merges into the cultural and tourism cycling route, adding dynamic vitality to the outline of the ancient capital. since the 14th five-year plan, dongcheng district has built slow-moving demonstration areas such as wangfujing, and continued to carry out the construction of tree-lined roads and urban galleries, which has improved the slow-moving environment of 36.2 kilometers of roads.

standardizing the parking order of non-motor vehicles is an important part of improving citizens' green travel experience. in order to comprehensively improve the parking order of non-motor vehicles in the city, the beijing municipal transportation comprehensive management leading group office issued the "guiding opinions on strengthening the management of non-motor vehicle parking (trial)" and the "beijing non-motor vehicle parking management work plan" on september 10, proposing to start from both the supply and demand sides and build a management mechanism of "city-street linkage, government-enterprise-civilian joint governance".

in accordance with the requirements of the work plan, on the basis of consolidating the previous achievements in the management of parking order at rail stations, this year, 14 key "schools, hospitals, scenic spots, and supermarkets" (i.e. schools, hospitals, scenic spots, and supermarkets) will launch a pilot program for joint management of non-motor vehicle parking in urban areas.summarize and form governance standards and experiences that can be replicated and promoted.improving the parking order of non-motor vehicles in the city, creating a standardized, orderly and safe non-motor vehicle parking environment.
