"this year is the first mid-autumn festival in 24 years that i am not with my family, but in yunnan, china, more than 500 kilometers away from home, i feel the warmth of home." quoc nguyen cha mei, a 24-year-old international student from hanoi, vietnam, said on the 17th that from the mid-autumn moon cakes given by the school, the enthusiastic invitations of friends, to the rich and colorful mid-autumn cultural experience activities, she felt a different mid-autumn festival style in yunnan.
yunnan province, located in southwest china, is geographically connected to vietnam, has close people, cultural connections, and business connections. in recent years, cultural exchanges between yunnan and vietnam have been expanding, attracting a large number of vietnamese young people to study, live, and start businesses in yunnan.
as an international student who loves chinese culture, like most vietnamese youths, guo ruan cha mei has been obsessed with chinese tv dramas, especially journey to the west, since she was young. in august this year, guo ruan cha mei, who was "attracted" by the song "go to dali" and the tv series "go to a windy place", became a graduate student majoring in international chinese education at kunming university of science and technology as she wished.
since coming to china to study, guo ruan chamei is looking forward to her first traditional festival. after tasting the flower mooncakes and ham mooncakes distributed by the school, guo ruan chamei praised them repeatedly, saying, "vietnamese mooncakes are sweeter, while yunnan ham mooncakes are saltier. although the tastes are different, the fun is endless."
visiting lantern shows, tasting delicious food, and enjoying beautiful scenery... guo ruanchamei was very happy to welcome her first mid-autumn festival holiday in her life. she and her friends made an appointment to go to kunming city to experience the strong mid-autumn festival atmosphere. "this mid-autumn festival allowed me to immerse myself in the rich cultural atmosphere of china." guo ruanchamei said that she also plans to go to dali, a "windy place", to check in and hunt for treasures next month.
"children are the protagonists of the mid-autumn festival in vietnam. in addition to family reunions and moon watching, children can also dance the lion dance, play drums, and play with five-pointed star lanterns, and enjoy their own 'children's day'." lang thi heng, a 27-year-old vietnamese daughter-in-law, told reporters that in order to give the children a surprise, she prepared toys, snacks and other gifts early.
in the nearly ten years since she married and moved to hekou yao autonomous county, honghe prefecture, yunnan province, on the china-vietnam border, lang shiheng has followed the local customs. during festivals, she not only asks her parents-in-law about traditional chinese customs, but also brings the customs of her hometown to china. in addition to preparing all kinds of chinese and vietnamese mooncakes in advance, lang shiheng also cooks a table of yunnan-vietnam flavors during the mid-autumn festival.
on september 16, lang shiheng made fried spring rolls, a vietnamese specialty. (photo provided by the interviewee)
"on the mid-autumn festival, every vietnamese household will cut a moon cake, and each person will eat one to symbolize reunion." lang shiheng told reporters that this ritual has been carried out in his family for nearly ten years.
"many young people in vietnam choose to gather during the mid-autumn festival, and the streets and alleys are very lively." lang shiheng said that during festivals, local sisters who are also vietnamese daughters-in-law will spontaneously organize gatherings. however, this year, due to the impact of typhoon "makar", many places in northern vietnam were affected by disasters, so the sisters changed the mid-autumn festival gathering to donations to their hometown, hoping to help their hometown in this way.
hekou county, located on the china-vietnam border, faces lao cai city, lao cai province, vietnam across the river. the kunhe highway, china-vietnam meter-gauge railway, and red river waterway meet here. convenient transportation makes it a golden channel for china to open up to south asia and southeast asia. every year, a large number of chinese and vietnamese businessmen come here to do business.
six years ago, zhao thi kim, a vietnamese girl who was optimistic about the chinese market, opened a store in hekou county, mainly selling vietnamese specialties such as coffee, biscuits, slippers, etc. today, in the e-commerce era, zhao thi kim has started selling things online, with customers all over china.
"china is a country of etiquette, and doing business is very particular." zhao thi jin told reporters that to express her blessings, since she came to china, before the mid-autumn festival every year, in addition to stocking up on vietnamese specialty products, she would also send some vietnamese and chinese mooncakes to chinese and vietnamese customers and friends, so that everyone could taste the different mid-autumn festival "reunion flavors" of the two countries.
