according to the red star capital bureau on september 15, there have been reports recently that hello is gradually abandoning its previously focused two-wheeled electric vehicle sales business, with offline stores in various places closing one after another, and its business focus on two-wheeled electric vehicles has also shifted to a leasing model.
on september 15, hello responded to the red star capital bureau and said that hello’s electric vehicle business had undergone an active transformation at the beginning of the year, transforming the platform stores from the original electric vehicle sales model to a hybrid model of electric vehicle leasing and sales, "which is a relatively normal business adjustment behavior in the industry."
hello also introduced that the rental model, through daily, monthly and quarterly rental, can meet the needs of users for electric vehicle rental in different scenarios such as travel, study and work, and many stores have obtained relatively rich financial returns in the transformation. during the transformation process, some of the original cooperative stores stopped cooperation, and more new stores joined the hello platform.
hello said that for hello electric vehicles sold through the sales model, hello and its sales partner stores will continue to support the warranty and after-sales services of users' vehicles. customers can report repairs with one click on the hello app, or consult the online customer service on the hello app or call the customer service phone number for feedback processing.
it is understood that hello officially entered the two-wheeled electric vehicle business of its own brand in 2020. in 2021, li kaizhu, executive president of hello travel, also publicly stated, "i hope that in the next three to five years, we will at least become the number one smart electric vehicle company in the industry."
however, hello electric vehicle's business has not been as smooth as expected. according to china business news, in early 2023, hello travel ceo yang lei said in a discussion about the electric vehicle business that the development of the electric vehicle business did not meet expectations, "electric vehicles are indeed the longest, heaviest and most difficult business we do."
according to iresearch's research report, the "new national standard" policy released in 2018 has spurred a wave of replacement of non-national standard vehicles, ushering in 3 to 5 years of market growth. as the "new national standard" policy slowly comes to an end, the sales volume of the domestic two-wheeled electric vehicle market will return to normal replacement and a small number of new additions. in addition, according to the "2024 china two-wheeled electric vehicle industry research" report released by iresearch, china's two-wheeled electric vehicle sales in 2024 are expected to decline by 9.1% year-on-year to 50 million vehicles.
