in fact, according to the agricultural knowledge portal of taiwan’s agricultural affairs department, pomelo belongs to the pomelo family and its official name is “madou pomelo”. it originated from the fact that after the pomelo was introduced from the mainland to taiwan for cultivation, the pomelo in madou mutated and had better quality. from then on, a new variety of madou pomelo was established, but it is still customarily called “wendan” or “wendan pomelo”.
