according to bloomberg, byd executive vice president li ke said in an interview that in the future, overseas deliveries will account for nearly half of byd's total sales, indicating that the company will continue to establish overseas production centers to address import tariff issues.

li ke was interviewed at byd's shenzhen headquarters on monday. she said, "in the future, overseas markets will account for a relatively large proportion of our global sales." when asked for a more specific proportion, she said, "close to half."

although li ke did not give a specific time frame for achieving this sales target, it would require byd to significantly increase production and deliveries. byd's overseas sales this year are expected to reach 500,000 vehicles, with 270,000 vehicles in the first seven months, accounting for about 14% of the company's total sales. byd's overall goal is to sell approximately 3.6 million pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in 2024, mainly in the domestic market.

to achieve this goal, byd is investing billions of dollars in production facilities in europe, asia and south america to meet local market demand and circumvent trade barriers against chinese electric vehicles. earlier this month, the european union announced an additional 17% tariff on byd cars, while canada and the united states imposed 100% tariffs on chinese electric vehicles.

joanna chen, a chinese auto analyst at bloomberg intelligence, said byd's goal of 50% overseas sales will not be achieved until 2030, or even later. "among china's oems (original equipment manufacturers), chery automobile's current sales are about half for export and half for domestic sales. it was the first to go abroad and is now china's largest export oem. other companies are still heavily dependent on the domestic market." joanna chen said.

li ke also said that byd is also building its own data centers in various european countries to expand its autonomous driving and connected car businesses. previously, he xiaopeng, ceo of xiaopeng motors, also said in an interview that he would build large data centers in europe to support smart driving cars.
