Opening words
In his congratulatory letter to the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out: "Chinese-style modernization is achieved through hard work, and all great undertakings are accomplished through hard work!"
Struggle for a new look, and hard work for a better future. Guangzhou Daily focuses on hard work and hard work models in various industries in Guangzhou, Guangdong, and will launch a series of reports titled "The New Voice of Hard Work" from today. It uses stories of hard work of ordinary workers and vivid scenes of struggle to depict the group of strugglers in the new era who stick to their posts, are positive, hardworking, and selflessly dedicated, and together they play the melody of the era of high spirits and progress.
Chen Qingcheng
"This sound is not right." After boarding the ship, Chen Qingcheng, chief technician of China State Shipbuilding Corporation and senior welding technician of Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Guangzhou Shipyard International"), listened carefully for a while and signaled the welder who was welding to stop the operation. He did not need to wear a mask to observe the weld because the sound of welding had told him that "there is something wrong with this place."
As a top technician of GSI, Chen Qingcheng led more than 90 welders to be responsible for the welding work during the assembly of ship sections. If the workers made mistakes or encountered difficulties, Chen Qingcheng would provide timely guidance.
"Come, look, there are knobs for adjusting current and voltage on the welding machine." Chen Qingcheng wiped his sweat, squatted beside the welding machine, and patiently taught the younger generation, "We must choose the parameters of welding current and voltage during welding, so as to ensure the stability of the arc." Chen Qingcheng said that the process manual and training materials only list the approximate parameters. There are no detailed and specific operation gestures and parameters such as welding current and arc voltage for welding in special areas of ships, which requires the accumulation of practical experience. "People who have been in contact with electric welding for a long time can tell at a glance that if the parameters are correct, the sound of the arc is 'sizzling', and if they are wrong, the sound will be 'puff puff', like setting off firecrackers." Chen Qingcheng has been in this business for 28 years and is sensitive enough to the sound of the arc during welding.
"Listening to the sound and identifying the shape" is one of the unique skills that Chen Qingcheng has mastered in his day-to-day welding work. In the narrow space of the hull, many welds cannot be seen even when lying down. Chen Qingcheng has developed a unique skill of "listening, fast, accurate and ruthless" to operate welding in special positions. It can ensure that the pass rate of weld X-ray flaw detection reaches 100% in one time.
After 28 years of honing his skills, Chen Qingcheng has grown from a small welder to a "national treasure" welder. Even though he has been awarded many honorary titles, including "National Model Worker", "National Technical Expert", "National May 1st Labor Medal", "China Youth May 4th Medal", and "One Hundred Outstanding Craftsmen" of central enterprises, he still focuses on every task at hand.
On June 30, 2024, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel was completed and opened to traffic. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel immersed tube tunnel is about 6.8 kilometers long (the immersed tube section is about 5 kilometers long). It adopts the steel shell concrete composite structure, which is the first application in China and the first large-scale application in the world. It consists of 32 pipe sections and 1 final joint. Guangzhou Shipyard International is responsible for the construction of 18 pipe sections and 1 final joint of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel submarine tunnel, and Chen Qingcheng is one of the participants.
The steel shell and final joint of the E1 pipe segment of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel submarine tunnel are the first in the world. The average steel consumption of each immersed tube segment is about 10,000 tons, and the weld length exceeds 270,000 meters. The pipe segment is very heavy, so in the manufacturing workshop, each pipe segment is divided into pieces and then transported to the site for welding and splicing. In order to ensure the manufacturing speed, accuracy, weld and coating quality of the immersed tube, the manufacturing workshop is intelligent and streamlined, but when it comes to on-site splicing, it is necessary to manually weld the butt joints between the pipe segment blocks.
In Chen Qingcheng's opinion, the welding of the large seams outside the pipe segments is relatively simple. The 40mm thick butt joints are welded using high-efficiency welding methods such as SAW submerged arc welding and EGW vertical gas electric welding. The overall difficulty is not great. The difficulty is that the steel shell of the pipe segment is a double-layer structure. The double-layer steel plate is divided into multiple closed small compartments. Workers need to drill into an extremely narrow space to perform manual welding of the internal structure. "Electric welding is a high-temperature job. Workers often get soaked during welding. Therefore, they must put insulating mats under their feet to prevent electric shock and wear cowhide sleeves to prevent spark burns."
The final joint of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel is an integrally prefabricated underwater push-out type. This type of joint has the advantages of good safety, fast construction, no need for large equipment, and good economy. However, its structural form is extremely complex, there is almost no experience to draw on, and the spatial intersection and process organization of the structure and device are extremely complex, the precision matching requirements are high, and the manufacturing is extremely difficult. The final joint internal and external contour dimensions, slide rails, etc. must be controlled to the millimeter level. To this end, Chen Qingcheng formulated detailed welding requirements, including controlling welding current, voltage, heat input, weld leg size, and optimizing the welding sequence, etc., to reduce welding deformation.
Over the years, Chen Qingcheng has been keen on research, turning production problems that plagued shipbuilding into technical research topics and producing a number of innovative results. Now he has more energy to devote to technical innovation and talent training.
"From manual welding to automatic welding, technology has been advancing, and the combination of new and traditional technologies is both a trend in industrial development and a challenge faced by welders. In addition to new technologies, new materials are also constantly emerging." Chen Qingcheng gave an example, "Last year we built the largest container ship in South China, and came into contact with the material of crack-arresting steel for the first time. There is also low-temperature steel. The low-temperature steel used in future liquefied gas tankers will be different from the low-temperature steel used in previous scientific research ships." Therefore, the research team composed of his national-level skill master studio and welding laboratory has been researching new technologies and new materials, and continuously conducting experiments. The double-wire vertical gas-electric welding currently promoted by the research team is a new technology that has only been released after a full year of testing. "For the same workload, it used to take two and a half days to weld using carbon dioxide gas shielded welding. Now it only takes one and a half to two hours." he said.
Chen Qingcheng, known as a "knowledgeable skilled worker", has been strict with himself and constantly improving himself for 28 years. He also compiled his own experience into teaching materials and actively promoted "teaching, helping and guiding" at work to help the younger generation grow quickly. "We must not only work hard, but also look up and see the way forward." Chen Qingcheng hopes that more and more young people will join and love the welding industry.
With great power:78 technical innovation achievementsIt has been widely used in production practice
Chen Qingcheng has published many papers in authoritative journals such as "Welding Technology", "Electric Welding Machine" and "Metal Processing", systematically expounding and introducing the technical specifications and operating essentials of various typical projects. At the same time, Chen Qingcheng participated in the revision of the "Welding Process and Specification Manual" of Guangzhou Shipyard International in 2015, compiled the "Gotland-Ropax Passenger and Roll-on Ship Thin Plate Section Construction Process Requirements Manual" in 2016, and compiled the "CO2 Gas Shielded Welding Various Positions Weld Forming Welder Operation Specification Manual" in 2018. More than 6,800 manuals were printed and distributed to employees to guide on-site welders in construction operations and improve welding quality.
At present, 78 technical innovation achievements of Chen Qingcheng have been promoted and applied in production practice. On average, it creates economic benefits of more than 10 million yuan for the company each year.
In addition, Chen Qingcheng also teaches new employees how to hold welding guns and how to operate them. In recent years, Chen Qingcheng has trained 127 senior workers, 117 technicians, and 4 senior technicians, and many of his apprentices have won championships in national skill competitions.
