China's automobile industry is an important force in global automobile manufacturing and exports. In 2023, China's total automobile output value reached 11 trillion yuan, and the export volume reached 4.91 million vehicles, ranking first in the world for the first time. In addition to leading in production, China's automobile manufacturing industry also has strong competitiveness in technological innovation, quality control and cost advantages, and has established a complete supply chain system worldwide, with the ability to respond quickly to market demand.
There is a bright future for Chinese cars going overseas to Africa. While facing huge market opportunities, there are also many challenges. How to build a new model for car exports under the background of the new pattern has become an issue that needs to be discussed urgently.
During the event, Zhao Haoxing, Dean of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Research Institute of Zhejiang Gongshang University, said that the commercial circulation system under traditional productivity is small, scattered and weak. It is necessary to accelerate the creation of an industrial chain circulation system driven by new quality productivity through brand marketing, digital commerce, super supply chain, integrated trade and other measures, improve the quality of the supply side, and realize the upgrading of export consumer goods.
How to build a new system for high-quality Chinese auto brands to enter Africa?
Zhao Haoxing said that in the new era, the overseas expansion of automobile brands is a systematic project, and put forward four suggestions: "enterprise + platform + government" brands should go overseas in groups, "independence + maker + agent" should be used to cultivate a localized marketing team, "base + exhibition and trade + marketing" should be used to build a high-efficiency supply chain system, and "independence + optimization + community" should be used to build a three-dimensional African online marketing system.
He stressed that in the context of the digital economy, we should make good use of digital marketing systems including online marketing, alliance marketing, and M&A marketing. We should build an independent international marketing team and move beyond the traditional business model. For example, we can establish marketing promotion based on the production base, and build local marketing, channel cooperation, and cross-border e-commerce.
He believes that it is also necessary to strengthen the company's own capabilities. The key lies in building an integrated supply chain system for business flow, logistics flow, information flow, capital flow, and service flow, building a digital business system that integrates online and offline, doing a good job in localized marketing that deeply cultivates the community, and establishing a two-way, three-dimensional, complementary park ecology.
In addition, many African countries still have problems such as imperfect transportation networks and power supply, insufficient foreign exchange reserves, etc., which are not conducive to automobile sales and use. In this regard, experts suggested that Chinese companies can improve the overall supporting service level by participating in local infrastructure construction, and can also enhance the competitiveness of brands in the African market by providing high-quality after-sales service and parts supply. In response to the problems of insufficient foreign exchange reserves in African countries, Chinese companies can carry out localized production cooperation with African countries, and reduce foreign exchange demand through joint ventures, technology transfer, etc. At the same time, Chinese financial institutions can provide competitive financing solutions to help African countries improve their foreign exchange payment capabilities.
At the scene, Guitar, Secretary General of Yiwu China-Africa Chamber of Commerce from Senegal, introduced the basic situation of Senegal. He said that Senegal is relatively friendly to the import of overseas brand cars in terms of culture, policies and business environment, and welcomes investment and cooperation from Chinese automobile companies.
The forum was hosted by the China-Africa Bridge and the Automotive Export Co-creation Alliance. The roundtable forum also organized experts and enterprises to share their experiences and cases on the current situation and development trend of the African automotive market, the sharing of successful cases of Chinese auto brands going overseas to Africa, the policy environment and market access strategies of African countries, the financial support and risk management of automotive exports, the discussion of localized production services and cooperation models, and the cultivation and training of automotive professional skills talents.
