chinese shipping companies have made another success in qatar’s high-profile “hundred ships project”. on september 30, hudong-zhonghua shipbuilding (group) co., ltd., a subsidiary of china state shipbuilding corporation, built a 174,000 cubic meter large liquefied natural gas (lng) carrier for the "qatar hundred shipbuilding plan-qatar northern gas field expansion ship purchase project" the no. 2 ship, "umm al-gwa irina", was completed and signed for delivery two and a half months ahead of schedule. this is the third large lng ship delivered by hudong-zhonghua in september, setting a new record in my country’s shipbuilding history and a tribute to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the people’s republic of china.
it is worth mentioning that the original record was also held by hudong-zhonghua - in may this year, the company delivered two large lng ships in a single month.
this september can be called the harvest season in hudong and china. on september 9, they officially signed a construction contract for six of the world's largest ultra-large lng carriers with a capacity of 271,000 cubic meters, thereby taking a total of 24 ultra-large lng carrier orders under the "hundred ship plan" and establishing a global innovation leader in this field. status. at the same time, the company completed and delivered a total of 5 ships in a single month, including 3 large lng ships and 1 24,000 teu ultra-large container ship. the total number of completed ships in a single month is equivalent to 25% of the annual plan, which is also a new record. . in addition, they also completed multiple production nodes such as the start-up of 5 ships, the undocking of 1 ship, and the docking of 1 ship. at present, there are 23 civilian ships of various types under construction in hudong-zhonghua at the same time. all fronts show a busy and gratifying scene of a red september and a new chapter written at high speed.
the "umm al quwa irina" is a fifth-generation "changheng series" 174,000 cubic meter large lng ship independently developed and designed by hudong-zhonghua. it operates in accordance with qatar energy lng's technology for operating the world's largest lng fleet. the standard is specially tailored, integrating the latest design concepts, the best technical equipment, the strongest environmental protection performance, the most forward-looking, and the essence of hudong-zhonghua's previous lng ship designs. the total length is 299 meters, the molded width is 46.4 meters, and the molded depth is 26.25 meters. it adopts the latest generation of double skeg line type and is equipped with a number of low-carbon and digital technologies and equipment. it is classified by the american bureau of shipping (abs) and china classification society ( ccs) dual ship class.
on september 10, the first ship "rex tillerson" of qatar's "100-ship construction" project was named and delivered. only 20 days later, the second ship "umm al-quwa irina" was completed again. delivery will further consolidate the cornerstone of cooperation between china state shipbuilding corporation, hudong-zhonghua, qatar petroleum and qatar gas, and greatly enhance china’s market competitiveness and international influence in the field of r&d, design and construction of large lng ships.
during the construction process of the "umm al-gwa irina", hudong-zhonghua fully focused on key aspects such as "efficient dock loading, rapid terminal commissioning, and streamlined sea trial processes" and strictly implemented "lean production to improve efficiency and optimize management to strengthen "quality" lng ship construction strategy, fully promote digital construction, promote the application of new technologies and new construction methods, and strive to build high-quality ships with the highest standards and strictest requirements. thanks to the efforts of the construction team, the docking period of the ship was shortened by 1.5 months compared with the first ship. it is also the first lng ship in the "changheng series" to achieve "two-in-one" trial trials. while continuing to improve construction efficiency and quality, hudong-zhonghua has paid close attention to intrinsic safety and achieved a safety-free accident record of 6 million working hours, which has been highly praised and commended by the top management of qifang.
