xinmin evening news (reporter ye wei, correspondent he baoxin, zhang wenhao) today, the third 174,000 cubic meter large liquefied natural gas (lng) carrier "kongtong" built by hudong-zhonghua shipbuilding (group) co., ltd., a subsidiary of china state shipbuilding corporation, and china state shipbuilding industry trading co., ltd. for the second phase of cosco shipping petrochina's state lng transportation project was named and delivered in shanghai six months ahead of schedule. this is the second large lng carrier delivered by hudong-zhonghua in september, and the sixth large lng carrier delivered after the "shaolin", "wudang" and "kunlun" in the first phase of the project, and the "emei" and "huashan" in the second phase of the project. so far, all six ships in the first and second phases of the project named after china's "six major wulin sects" have been delivered.
the "kongtong" is the world's mainstream large-scale lng carrier, independently developed and designed by hudong-zhonghua, with full intellectual property rights. the ship is 295 meters long, 45 meters wide, 26.25 meters deep, with a speed of 19.5 knots, and is classified by the american bureau of shipping (abs) and the china classification society (ccs). the ship adopts the world's latest generation of dual-fuel low-speed propulsion power system and is equipped with advanced environmental protection devices. the daily fuel consumption is within 100 tons. the emissions in gas or fuel mode can meet the most stringent standards of the international maritime organization (imo). it has many characteristics such as low evaporation rate, low energy consumption, high environmental protection, strong versatility, and excellent economy. in particular, it has good ship-shore compatibility, flexible route adaptability, and can berth at most land shore stations in the world. it also has the function of ship-to-ship offshore transfer and transportation, which is well received by ship owners and popular in the market.
during the construction of the kongtong, hudong-zhonghua focused on key links such as "efficient dock loading, rapid dock commissioning, and streamlined sea trial processes", fully leveraging the new advantages of intelligent manufacturing, and promoting digital construction, achieving a good result of only 5 months from docking to sea trial and a dock construction period of only 6 months.
the "six major schools" have many highlights. during the construction of the "shaolin", hudong-zhonghua realized the gasification and commissioning of related equipment during the dock construction phase for the first time; the "wudang" set the shortest docking period for lng ships; and the "kunlun" achieved the fastest installation record of the liquid cargo tank containment system platform after optimizing the construction process; the "emei" was named and delivered 9 months ahead of schedule; the "huashan" created the world's fastest record of 4.5 days for the "two-in-one" trial voyage; and the "kongtong" set a new record for the shortest dock period of 6 months.
with the support of the strategy of doubling the production capacity of lng ships, the construction of large lng ships by hudong-zhonghua has been accelerated. in september alone, two ships were delivered, three ships were started, and one ship was launched. currently, there are as many as 20 ships under construction at the same time. it is reported that another ship will be delivered on september 30, which will set a new record of china's shipbuilding industry of delivering three large lng ships in one month.
