fast technology reported on september 7 that according to media reports,a quebec lawyer is launching a class-action lawsuit against apple, alleging that the company misrepresented the iphone's water resistance and refused to repair water-damaged iphones.

attorney joey zukran pointed out that apple's advertising implies that the iphone can be submerged in water without damage, but when consumers try to repair devices damaged by water, apple refuses to provide warranty service on the grounds of "liquid contact."

zukran believes that this practice contradicts apple's marketing and that the "liquid contact exemption" in the warranty terms is "completely ridiculous."

the lawsuit requires apple to cancel the "liquid contact" exemption clause, compensate all repair costs incurred due to water damage, and provide $500 in compensation to each affected consumer.

zukran said there were two conflicting clauses in apple's contract: on the one hand, the phone was advertised as "fall-proof" and could be used in water without worry.

on the other hand, it is claimed that liquid contact will void the warranty. by law, this interpretation must be in favor of the consumer.

previously, zukran also filed a lawsuit against apple over iphone battery life issues. the case was filed in 2019, and the quebec court ultimately made a ruling against apple.
