i just exchanged greetings with a few elderly people who were "picking up their children" and watched the crowd gradually leave. i was among them, but i clearly felt that the repeated instructions to the children had not yet faded away: study hard, listen carefully, do homework well, raise your hand to speak in class, answer the test questions correctly? of course, there are many "well..." i just wonder why i rarely hear "eat well"?
one day last semester, i picked up my granddaughter and asked casually: what are we having for lunch? the child said nonchalantly: it’s not tasty, so i threw it away. although it was just a child’s words, it still scared me. i have read “who knows that the food on the plate is hard-earned” since i was a child, so how can i just throw it away? i never thought that their meals were always empty. i wanted to say something else, but i had to stop when i saw the child’s disdainful eyes. although it is impossible to judge whether the school meals are “difficult to satisfy everyone” or the quality is poor and difficult to swallow; but it is clear that whether we adhere to the traditional concept of “‘taste’ always obeys ‘saving’” has become a “generation gap” between grandparents and grandchildren. we believe that as long as it can be swallowed, no matter how unpalatable it is, it is still a meal. in our opinion, school meals have standards and guarantees, and must meet basic hygiene and nutrition. how can they be “unpalatable”? so it is very likely that this is caused by the spoiled children who have always been carefully cared for. nowadays, family life is centered on children, and every meal is nutritious, tasteful and colorful; of course, school meals are not so comprehensive. i feel that the taste is not right, the saltiness is not used to it, and the consistency is not as good as usual. it is even more difficult to accept the gap from "the moon surrounded by stars" to "the masses", and i simply attribute it all to the word "unpalatable".
in fact, the cure is very simple: starve them for three days without any food, and see how they feel? the effect must be very good. but who can be so "cruel" to be mean to a child? i can only grumble in my heart, but what i mutter is: we didn't have anything to eat back then, why were there so many things to be particular about? i know it's useless to say it, but it will be more uncomfortable if i don't say it. the concept formed after experiencing the shortage economy era is deeply rooted: as long as you have food in your stomach, you can study hard; not only do you regard "throwing away food" as equivalent to wasting, but you also think that children nowadays are too precious because they have been pampered since childhood, and the root of those "flaws" on their bodies must be in the family. even if it is not for economic considerations, it should be regarded as tolerance training for them before they enter the society in the future, and they should start with eating every meal well.
for children, if they don’t eat enough during the day, they can make up for it at night, so nutrition is never a problem. expecting them to “eat well” is not only to get them used to the big pot dishes in the school cafeteria, but also to learn how to make suggestions and shape their character from the dining table; and to be harmonious and tolerant in getting along with teachers and classmates, and to learn to adapt to the collective choices in small matters, which is of course the expectation after expectation; going a step further, not only to abide by the tradition of saving food, but also to cherish things and blessings, the truth is a bit profound, and the children will naturally understand it in the future.
