widening of the dayangfang bridge exit ramp on the southeast fifth ring road

the congestion relief project is closely related to citizens' travel and has been listed as an important livelihood project of the municipal government in recent years. this year, the municipal transportation department focused on the regional travel difficulties that citizens strongly complained about, and implemented the municipal congestion relief project by widening road bottleneck sections, adjusting (newly building) road entrances and exits, and improving barrier-free facilities to improve road traffic capacity, centering on the transformation of congested nodes, optimizing traffic organization, and improving the green travel environment.

the reporter learned from the beijing urban road maintenance and management center (referred to as the "urban maintenance center") that so far this year, 12 renovation projects have been completed, including the renovation of the intersection of liangmaqiao road and the fourth ring road auxiliary road, the renovation of the roads around the west fourth ring outer ring auxiliary road (fengtai bridge), the improvement of the slow-moving system of chongwenmen east street, the widening and renovation of the dayangfang bridge exit ramp of the southeast fifth ring road, and the optimization and adjustment of the traffic organization of the north fifth ring outer ring main road (laiyuanying bridge-gujiazhuang bridge). good results have been achieved in improving traffic operation efficiency and improving the traffic travel environment.

among them, after the exit ramp of dayangfang bridge on the southeast fifth ring road was widened from one lane to two lanes, the driving speed on the congested section of the fifth ring road (kanghua bridge-dayangfang bridge) during peak hours increased from about 15 kilometers to 30 kilometers; after the traffic organization of the outer ring main road of the north fifth ring road (laiyuanying bridge-gujiazhuang bridge) was optimized and adjusted, the vehicle operating speed on this section increased by about 34.2% during the morning peak and about 13.08% during the evening peak.

people's hospital underground passageway installed with elevator

improving the level of barrier-free travel services has also been a focus of traffic congestion relief projects in recent years.

on september 4, a newly installed elevator at the underground crossing of peking university people's hospital on xizhimen south street on the west second ring road provided convenience for pedestrians crossing the street.

on the afternoon of september 4, reporters saw at the xizhimen campus of peking university people's hospital that two elevators were installed at both ends of the underground passage under the west second ring road in front of the hospital. "i suffer from osteoarthritis and go to the hospital every other day. in the past, i could only walk up the stairs to get in and out of the passage. it was really painful because of my poor legs and feet." aunt chen, who had just walked out of the elevator, said. while talking, an aunt in a wheelchair was pushed into the elevator by her husband. the new elevator has a high usage rate.

"this underground passage was built a long time ago. in the past, the stairs were all in the form of steps, and it took 68 steps to go up and down. it was inconvenient for the elderly who were seeking medical treatment and people who needed barrier-free travel." zhang ri, an engineer from the comprehensive management section of the urban nursing center, said that in addition to patients seeking medical treatment, many citizens also used this passage to cross the second ring road on weekdays. during this renovation, the pedestrian stairs on one side of the two ends of the passage were transformed into vertical elevators to solve the "pain point" of crossing the street.

it is not easy to install an elevator in the old passage near the second ring road. "there are hospitals and residential buildings on the roadside, and various pipelines such as heat, gas, and electricity are installed underground. we provide steel structure support on the ground, and synchronously grout reinforcement and jack support underground to ensure construction safety," said ma zhixin, chief engineer of the fourth municipal engineering division of beijing construction engineering and maintenance group.

"our hospital campus has been built for more than 40 years. the number of outpatients has increased from 3,000 to 13,000 per day. in addition, the space in the xizhimen area is tight, and the pressure of parking and travel has always been high." yang fan, deputy director of peking university people's hospital, told reporters that in addition to installing elevators for the passageway, the hospital will also reserve more than 200 staff parking spaces for patients, and medical staff will park their cars in the nearby xizhimen business district, thereby alleviating traffic congestion around the hospital.

clear the congestion point of wanquan river expressway

a number of traffic jams were cleared in the decongestion project. among them, there are two main road entrances on the wanquan river expressway heading into beijing, from xiyuan hospital to the wanquan river bridge. when vehicles enter from the wanquan river auxiliary road, they need to merge directly into the outermost lane of the main road, which seriously interweaves with vehicles on the main road and causes traffic jams, and also poses a major safety hazard.

during the renovation, at the entrance of zhongguancun exhibition center on the north side of the road, the main and auxiliary road isolation belt and wanquan river auxiliary road were moved 3.5 meters westward by utilizing the green space outside the trail, and a 3.5-meter-wide acceleration lane was added to the entrance to open up the interweaving node. at present, the renovation of the entrance has been completed and put into use.

subsequently, the urban maintenance center will continue to promote the renovation of another entrance. it plans to use the innermost lane of the wanquan river auxiliary road to move the existing ramp retaining wall connecting the north fourth ring road 3.5 meters toward the auxiliary road, and also add an acceleration lane to the entrance to alleviate the congestion problem on the wanquan river expressway.

in the next step, the city’s transportation department will continue to promote the management of eight key traffic nodes, including the widening and reconstruction of the beijing-shanghai expressway (from the fourth ring road to the fifth ring road), and carry out construction work on 20 people’s livelihood projects, including the reconstruction of the intersection of chaoyang north road and shifoying west road. by utilizing the characteristics of the congestion relief project of “small, fast and flexible” and through a relatively short construction period, it will improve and enhance the traffic environment around the project area and put practical things for the people into practice.
