during gamescom 2024, matt hansen, the art director of "oath", stated that the studio set the target frame rate of the xbox console to 30fps when developing the game, and added that 60fps is not necessary for single-player rpgs. this statement caused considerable controversy among fans, and now, the art director has made controversial remarks again.

hansen told windows central that obsidian found that xbox series x often ran avenged more smoothly than pc.

“we’ve been developing the xbox and pc versions in parallel. but honestly, one of the things that surprised me the most was that early on in development, we realized that the xbox series x often performed better than the pc.

it runs avenged very, very well. we didn’t have to do a lot of xbox-specific tuning. we’re still figuring out the specs for xbox series s because it doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles on the back end, but we have a very good engineering team. we’re really focused right now on polishing the content that we have and doing all the performance optimizations because those always come last… so, a lot of that stuff is hard to nail down right now.”

hansen is probably referring to regular pcs rather than high-end configurations. still, the comment is confusing, especially given previous comments about 30fps for the console version. on the other hand, hansen also confirmed that the xbox version of avowed will support ray tracing in some way.

during the cologne expo, nvidia officially announced that the pc version of "the oath" will support ray tracing and dlss 3. nvidia's official blog only mentioned ray tracing reflections, so the xbox version may also only support ray tracing reflections, and it may be a low-resolution version.
