BEIJING, August 20 (Xinhua) -- Joint Statement by the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Fiji

1. At the invitation of Li Qiang, Premier of the People's Republic of China, Fijian Prime Minister Sitiweni Rambuka will pay an official visit to China from August 12 to 21, 2024. During the visit, Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, met with Prime Minister Rambuka, Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council, held talks with Prime Minister Rambuka, and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met with Prime Minister Rambuka.

2. The joint statement reflects the two countries' willingness to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership, is committed to promoting practical cooperation and clarifies their common commitments.

The leaders of the two countries spoke highly of the substantial development of bilateral relations over the past 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji, and agreed that the development of China-Fiji relations has enhanced the common interests of the two countries and their peoples, and promoted peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. Both sides stressed that the two countries will continue to uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership of mutual respect and common development between China and Fiji.

4. Both sides agreed that all countries are equal regardless of size, strength, wealth or poverty, and that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, and the people of all countries should independently choose a development path that suits their national conditions, and abide by the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs. China firmly supports Fiji in safeguarding its sovereignty and independence. Fiji firmly adheres to the one-China principle, recognizes that there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing all of China.

5. China appreciates Prime Minister Rambuka's vision of a "Sea of ​​Peace" and is committed to working with Fiji to contribute to international peace and security. Fiji will continue to seek to realize the vision of a "Sea of ​​Peace" by implementing the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and is committed to working with all parties to implement the Blue Pacific 2050 Strategy.
