Beijing News reported on August 15 that the official WeChat public account of the China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA) announced that in order to further promote the retail industry's efforts to reduce food waste and carbon emissions and help build an ecological civilization society, the China Chain Store & Franchise Association officially released the "Guidelines for the Implementation of Reducing Food Waste in the Retail Industry" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines"). The "Guidelines" are applicable to all types of retail enterprises involved in food sales, and provide clear guiding principles and operating specifications for enterprises in key links such as management systems, food procurement, storage management, transportation and distribution, processing and production, operation and sales, and surplus handling.
The "Guidelines" cover many aspects, including establishing a refined management system to reduce costs and increase efficiency for enterprises; optimizing food procurement processes to reduce losses; strengthening storage management to ensure food safety; optimizing transportation and distribution methods to reduce carbon footprint; scientifically managing sales to enhance consumers' awareness of conservation; and standardizing surplus handling to promote resource recycling.
According to reports, the "Guidelines" were issued and coordinated by the China Chain Store Association, and the main drafting units included the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the World Resources Institute (USA) Beijing Representative Office, Walmart (China) Investment Co., Ltd., and China Resources Vanguard OLE Company.
