the "xuanji" system was developed by cnooc, which includes two technologies, rotary steerable drilling and logging while drilling, which can accurately control the drill bit to adjust the drilling direction in the rock layer thousands of meters underground. xia yi, deputy general manager of cosl iraq branch, said: "rotary steerable drilling is like adding a turbocharged engine to the traditional drilling equipment, which is more powerful and safer. the logging while drilling instrument is like a pair of eyes installed on the bottom drill bit to guide the way forward, through which the current position can be determined and the oil layer can be flexibly found in the dark underground." the combination of the two technologies enables the drill bit to accurately travel thousands of meters in a thin oil layer only 1 meter thick.

in the workshop of the permanent camp of missan oilfield, the reporter saw the "xuan ji" system equipment that was under maintenance. the dozens of meters long instrument was split into three sections and laid horizontally on the instrument rack. it was connected to a computer through wires, and various test data were scrolling and refreshing on the computer screen. xia yi said that the "xuan ji" system needs to accurately detect the underground geological conditions and accurately control the drilling direction of the drill bit. at the same time, it is very important to keep various sensors in normal operation. "how does the drill bit adjust the direction during operation?" hearing this question from the reporter, xia yi pointed to the rectangular ribs protruding from the front of the drill bit: "this is one of the core components of 'xuan ji'. the three ribs are like the three wings of the drill bit. according to the drilling instructions sent by the ground equipment, they are received and identified by the central control system, and the three hydraulic cylinders inside the "command" tool generate different thrusts, so that the ribs push against the formation to different degrees. the reaction force generated by the formation on the ribs changes the force direction of the drill bit, realizing the adjustment of the drilling direction."

it is reported that the "xuan ji" system has been put into operation in iraq's missan oilfield since 2020. this is also the first batch of products output by the "xuan ji" intelligent production line. through the upgrade of the production line process, the "xuan ji" system has achieved a significant improvement in anti-abrasiveness, deflection stability and downhole parameter monitoring capabilities. in particular, the deep and dense limestone section of the missan oilfield contains caves and karst formations. the "xuan ji" system has demonstrated its reliability and stability in actual combat. so far, the "xuan ji" system has been operated in 88 wells in the missan oilfield and the south oilfield in east baghdad, and has achieved good results.

in recent years, cosl has participated in many exhibitions such as the iraq oil and gas exhibition with its "xuan ji" system, which has attracted attention and recognition from all parties. bassam mohammed, deputy minister of iraq's ministry of oil, said that iraq hopes to deepen exchanges and cooperation with china in technological innovation, talent training, and service improvement. imad hussein sayyid, general manager of the missan oilfield operations department, said that the application of the "xuan ji" system has enabled the missan oilfield to achieve its production goals ahead of schedule and has also improved iraq's oil exploration technology.

ren yonglin said that chinese companies will adhere to innovation-driven development, achieve greater mutual benefit and win-win results with iran, and contribute to the high-quality joint construction of the "belt and road".
