zhikhvensky was born in petrograd (now st. petersburg) in september 1918. he began to study sinology in 1935. he is a famous russian sinologist, historian and diplomat, and has won the russian state prize and the soviet state prize. his representative research works include "a general history of china - from ancient times to the beginning of the 21st century", "translation of kang youwei's works", "soviet-chinese cultural connections", etc. zhikhvensky is also a witness to sino-soviet, sino-russian relations and the development of new china. he has witnessed major historical events such as the founding ceremony of the people's republic of china and the establishment of diplomatic relations between china and the soviet union. after the establishment of diplomatic relations, he served as counselor and charge d'affaires of the soviet embassy in china. on february 24, 2018, zhikhvensky died in moscow.
