at 11:23 am on august 29, the first c919 passenger plane b-919x of air china (hereinafter referred to as air china) flew from shanghai pudong international airport and landed smoothly at beijing capital international airport with the national flag on its head, and slowly glided through the "water gate" which symbolizes the highest courtesy in the civil aviation industry. this marks that the first c919 domestic large aircraft has officially "joined" the air china fleet. just the day before, air china and china southern airlines (hereinafter referred to as china southern airlines) simultaneously received the first c919 aircraft at the pudong base of the commercial aircraft corporation of china (comac) final assembly and manufacturing center, marking that the c919 is about to enter a new stage of multi-user operation, laying a solid foundation for the further promotion and popularization of this model and large-scale commercial use in the future.
delivering to more users, c919 enters a new stage of operation. "good aircraft are made and flown". since the world's first c919 delivered successfully completed its first commercial passenger flight on may 28, 2023, the commercial operation of domestic large aircraft has been more than a year. the c919 is in normal technical condition, with good safety flight performance, steady improvement in indicators such as daily utilization, and comprehensive operational capabilities have been fully tested. so far, a total of 9 c919 aircraft have been delivered to customers. among them, the c919 aircraft of china eastern airlines (hereinafter referred to as china eastern airlines) has been running smoothly for 15 consecutive months since its commercial maiden flight, and has opened 5 routes including shanghai to chengdu and shanghai to beijing, with a total of more than 3,600 commercial flights. this time, the c919 has moved from single airline operation to multi-airline operation, reflecting that domestic large aircraft are shifting from initial operation to large-scale operation. the two airlines have adopted different warehouse layouts to meet the different answers of air china and china southern airlines in facing the civil aviation market. i believe that as air china, china southern airlines and more airlines receive the c919 and put it into commercial operation in the future, the c919's flight route options will become more abundant and truly integrated into people's travel lives.
expanding the industrial blueprint, c919 leads the industrial chain to fly. one of the major missions of c919 is to drive the development of the domestic civil aircraft industry chain. the aviation manufacturing industry chain is long, has a wide range of radiation, and has strong driving force. a c919 contains more than 4 million parts, each of which must be safe and reliable enough, and the assembly and review process also has strict safety standards. according to comac, in the process of developing domestic large aircraft, a civil aircraft industry chain has been formed in china involving 22 provinces and cities, more than 200 enterprises, and nearly 200,000 people. the delivery of c919 to more users means that the production capacity of domestic large aircraft has begun to climb, and the economic benefits of the large aircraft industry are expected in the future. in january this year, comac revealed to the media that the production capacity of c919 will continue to expand gradually and grow steadily to achieve "more, faster, and better" production. at the same time, it plans to invest tens of billions of yuan in expanding production capacity within three to five years. singapore's central news agency commented that c919 is actively preparing to expand production capacity and obtain more airworthiness certificates. although it still needs to develop, it is only a matter of time before china's large aircraft breaks the duopoly of boeing and airbus.
embarking on the journey of innovation, c919 has become an innovation "source circle". driven by the c919 project, my country has basically built a civil aircraft industry system that "takes comac as the core, unites the aviation industry, radiates the whole country, and faces the world". taking the large aircraft innovation valley built by comac in shanghai as an example, under the guidance of the c919 project, a total of more than 100 scientific research projects have entered the valley, gathering and building a multi-professional, multi-technical, and multi-team collaborative innovative scientific research platform, forming a cluster effect of scientific and technological innovation, and effectively driving the accelerated formation of the innovation ecology of the aviation industry. in the development process of c919, countless r&d teams have overcome many core technologies for the production and manufacturing of large aircraft. more than 2,000 wing drawings, integrated designs of nose, fuselage, wings, wing-mounted engines, nearly 200 patent applications... c919, which has completely independent intellectual property rights, is designed independently by the chinese team, marking a leap forward for china's aviation industry.
