When holding meetings, the principle of necessity should be followed. Necessary meetings should be held, and unnecessary meetings should never be held.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the Office of the Special Working Mechanism for Rectifying Formalism at the Central Level to Reduce the Burden on the Grassroots, together with the General Office of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, recently reported three typical issues of rectifying formalism to reduce the burden on the grassroots. Among them, in 2022, the National Pipeline Network Group Headquarters (including department units) required its subordinate enterprises to attend more than 800 meetings, an average of more than 3 meetings per working day; in 2023, a subordinate company participated in more than 280 meetings of the group and various departments and units, an average of one meeting per working day.

Meetings are not a trivial matter. There is a lot of work to be done before and after, such as writing meeting speeches, arranging the venue, issuing meeting notices, etc., all of which require personnel to implement. As mentioned in the notice, there are more than 800 meetings a year, 2 to 3 times a day. Such a high frequency of meetings will inevitably take up a lot of working time. How can we have the energy to do things and how can we reflect work efficiency?

The purpose of meetings is to communicate with each other and coordinate with each other, which is understandable. But the problem is that if we rely too much on meetings, or even regard meetings as the highlight of promoting work, and ignore the importance of doing practical work, then we are going too far.
