On August 18, a man in Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, ate a bug while eating hot pot with his family. He asked for ten times the compensation but was rejected. The staff of the store involved responded that they were willing to pay the other party 1,000 yuan or give them some coupons, but were rejected.

On the morning of August 19, Jiupai News contacted the person involved, Mr. Mao, who said that on the evening of August 18, when he, his mother, and his nephew went to Nan Hotpot for dinner, they found bugs in the red oil pot. After reporting the problem to the store clerk, the store clerk replaced the hotpot base. However, Mr. Mao believed that the presence of bugs in the hotpot in the store indicated that the ingredients were substandard, and the same batch of ingredients were used to replace the base, so the problematic ingredients should be destroyed.

The staff suggested waiving the bill and giving Mr. Mao a free dessert as compensation. "I agreed, and then I waited there for thirty or forty minutes, but the dessert was not given to me." In Mr. Mao's opinion, the store's service attitude was poor, so he paid the bill and left, intending to defend his rights in the normal way later.

Mr. Mao later exposed the incident online, and the store contacted him and said they were willing to negotiate compensation. "They asked me to delete the video, and the person in charge on duty added me," he said. He asked for ten times the compensation, but no agreement was reached. After the negotiation failed, Mr. Mao found that the other party suspected that he was publicly insulting him in the circle of friends.

Mr. Mao believed that the other party did not respect him and said that the post in which the other party insulted him had been deleted that night. He has reported the matter of eating insects to the local 12315, the Market Supervision Administration, the Consumer Association and other relevant departments.

On the 19th, the staff of the Nan Hotpot restaurant involved responded that after changing the base of the hotpot for Mr. Mao, they promised to give Mr. Mao a free meal this time and next time, and also a dessert. They explained that because there were fewer employees, the desserts were served slowly, which gave Mr. Mao a bad experience. They said that Mr. Mao insisted on paying the original price, and then contacted them to ask for compensation.

"It seems to be around 3,080 yuan. He said he wanted ten times the compensation." The staff then informed the restaurant owner of the matter.

The staff claimed that the bugs in the pot were pepper bugs and that the batch of peppers had been destroyed afterwards. "It was probably because the bag containing the peppers leaked, and there must have been some insect eggs inside, which led to this problem. It's not a big deal," and they were willing to compensate the other party 1,000 yuan or give him some coupons, but Mr. Mao refused.

He said that the peppers were purchased from the headquarters and within the shelf life, and there had never been a similar problem before. The staff of the local market supervision bureau came to the store to investigate at around 9 o'clock this morning, and the store staff also fully cooperated. The market supervision bureau has issued a rectification notice.
