Xiamen, August 17 (Xinhua) -- Starting from Fujian, "Silk Road Shipping" becomes the "Golden Waterway"

Fujian, located in the southeast coast of China, is the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road and has been an important window for China to interact with the world since ancient times. Today, as the core area of the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road", the "Silk Road Shipping" starts from here and is becoming a "golden waterway" connecting the countries that jointly build the "Belt and Road".

"Silk Road Shipping" is China's first "Belt and Road" integrated service brand and platform with shipping as its theme, which was first created by Fujian. Li Nan, general manager of Fujian Silk Road Shipping Operation Co., Ltd., said in an interview with China News Service recently that from the end of 2018 to June 30 this year, there have been 122 named routes of "Silk Road Shipping", covering 9 departure ports in China and reaching 135 ports in 46 countries and regions around the world; a total of 15,434 ships have been launched, and the container throughput has reached 18.2248 million TEUs.
At Xiamen Port's Haitian Wharf, containers are piled up like mountains, and container ships are coming in and out, making it very busy. As an important departure port for the "Silk Road Shipping", Xiamen Port has 60 named "Silk Road Shipping" routes and opened China's first "Silk Road Shipping" cross-border e-commerce express line.
"The Xiamen-Manila e-commerce express line of 'Silk Road Shipping' goes directly from Xiamen Port to Manila Port in the Philippines, and can berth with priority. The shipping time is shortened to 2 days, which is rare in the world." Fan Xiehui, marketing manager of SITC Container Lines Xiamen Branch, told China News Service that this express line has operated a total of 105 voyages from its maiden voyage on June 10, 2022 to early August this year, with an export volume of 23,705 standard containers, most of which are shoes and clothing, furniture, fitness equipment, etc.

"Maritime Silk Road" builds an extensive and efficient maritime transport network, focuses on creating an international shipping comprehensive service platform, formulates a service standard system that runs through multiple links in the logistics chain, such as ports, shipping, customs clearance, transit, and multimodal transport terminals, creates a good environment for the development of maritime cooperation, and promotes the improvement of transportation service quality.
"Tens of millions of containers circulate around the world, relying on the 'Silk Road Shipping''s coordinated organization, platform-based operations, intelligent management, standardized services, convenient operations, and globalized brands, thus forming a community of interests, responsibilities, and a shared future," said Li Nan.
In May this year, the "Silk Road Shipping" sea-rail combined transport "daily class" trains running between Xiamen and Jiangxi Xiangtang International Land Port reached 1,000 trains, further unblocking the "southeast logistics golden channel" between Fujian and Jiangxi. Through the flexible coordination and combination of road + rail + sea transportation, containers can be effectively transferred between multiple modes of transportation, greatly shortening the time of goods in transit.
"Based on the coast and serving the inland, we hope to provide more options for goods from the central and western regions to go out to sea." Li Nan said that the development of sea-rail and multimodal transport has always been the focus of "Shipping Silk Road".
Including the railway sector, the 330 members of the "Silk Road Shipping" alliance cover all relevant enterprises in the port and shipping industry chain. Cross-industry cooperation in shipping and multiple fields has become a pioneering effort of the "Silk Road Shipping", serving global shipping merchants and fully demonstrating the principle of consultation, joint construction and sharing.
Official statistics show that in the first half of this year, the two bulk cargo routes of the "Silk Road Shipping" operated 84 voyages, loading and unloading 5.4804 million tons. Among them, 59 ships operated Indian stone, totaling 1.4309 million tons, with a trade volume of about 1.55 billion yuan (RMB, the same below); 25 ships operated Brazilian iron ore, totaling 4.0495 million tons, with a trade volume of about 3.664 billion yuan.
Li Nan said that in the future, the "Silk Road Shipping" will promote the integrated development of ports, shipping and trade, and promote more convenient trade between countries participating in the construction of the "Belt and Road" through the increase in routes and the improvement of efficiency.
