The popular Final Fantasy 9 PC Moguri Mod has released a brand new updated version four years after its initial release. Final Fantasy 9, one of the most beloved entries in the series, was originally released on the PS1 platform. The game has been ported to several different platforms, including a PC version in 2016. One of the most praised aspects of FF9 is its environmental art and graphics, which are the best on the PS1. However, most players feel that when the game was ported to the Steam platform, the PC version did not do a good job of upscaling the quality of the backgrounds and other aspects.

However, one of the most popular PC mods for Final Fantasy IX is the Moguri Mod, which aims to remaster and increase the game's graphical resolution without affecting the original aesthetic. The mod was originally released in 2020 and improves the backgrounds, fixes many bugs and exploits, and makes other visual changes that were done with AI and hand-painting. Although it seems that the mod is complete, in addition to a small number of fixes, the developers of the Moguri Mod have released a brand new version.

A new version of the Moguri Mod has been released on its official website (https://sites.google.com/view/moguri-mod/). This version is called Moguri 9.0, and it is a complete overhaul compared to the 8.3.0 update in 2020. This update of the MOD completely re-renders the backgrounds of Final Fantasy 9 Eternal, using a combination of Stable Diffusion and original upscaling. In addition, the battle backgrounds have been redesigned, while the lighting, texture upscaling, and pre-rendered FMVs have been improved. Many visual bugs in the original MOD have also been fixed.

The biggest update to the Final Fantasy 9 Moguri Mod is the numerous new features added to the MemoriaMOD launcher. These include the ability to reach high frame rates of 120 FPS, 16:10 and ultra-wide screen support, custom fonts, and built-in anti-aliasing. These improvements also open the door to more MOD opportunities, such as new textures, sound effects, playable characters, and even voices.

The Moguri Mod also introduces some experimental shader features that come in three styles: Original, Cartoon + Outline, and Realistic, which drastically change the look of character models. The Moguri Mod also allows players to replace Final Fantasy 9's Tetra Master minigame with the Triple Triad from Final Fantasy 8. Although rumors of a Final Fantasy 9 remake have been circulating for a while, Square Enix has yet to officially announce one. For now, the Moguri Mod is probably the closest thing to a remake of the original game.
