The evacuation first-person shooter Hunt: Showdown has just received its biggest update in years, with an engine upgrade, UI tweaks, new maps, and many other tweaks. The game has also been officially renamed Hunt: Showdown 1896.
After the update, the number of players online at the same time in the game has continued to hit new highs. According to SteamDB, the game set a new historical record yesterday, with 60,000 people online at the same time, far higher than the previous record.
The game should have been warmly received, but many players on Steam gave it negative reviews, resulting in the game receiving a recent rating of "mostly negative". This is mainly due to the new UI changes. Some players said that although the new UI "looks beautiful", it is "a nightmare" to use. They also mentioned that compared to the old UI, the updated operation is more cumbersome, the information provided on the screen is less, and you have to "constantly switch between submenus".
Developer Crytek has recently released a short developer update video on the game's official video channel, in which game design director Dennis Schwarz responded to players' dissatisfaction with the UI and said that it will be changed.
Schwarz described these issues as "key pain points in the user interface and user experience," and showed modified versions of the hunter equipment interface and lobby interface. Although he did not specify when these changes would be released in the beta, he said: "Please be patient, we will continue to improve the game's Easter eggs and update system in the next update. We are very grateful to the game's largest player base ever and are eager to continue to improve the game."
