[Global Network Technology Comprehensive Report] On the afternoon of July 27, at NIO IN 2024, NIO Innovation Technology Day, NIO founder, chairman, and CEO Li Bin and other senior management teams demonstrated NIO’s latest progress and future vision in the field of smart electric vehicles.

"NIO's investment in basic research and development is like laying the foundation. Although the initial investment is large, once the foundation is laid, subsequent development will be faster and easier," said Li Bin.

Li Bin believes that NIO can achieve extensive self-research and self-production layout because 60%-70% of NIO's R&D expenses are used for basic R&D. These technologies are not only applicable to a single model or brand, but can be used across brands and models. He emphasized that compared with the traditional automotive industry, the platform technology of smart electric vehicles has higher R&D investment efficiency and broader application prospects.

When talking about NIO's Sky OS system, Li Bin explained: "NIO develops operating systems with the car as the center, paying special attention to performance indicators such as stability, data throughput, bandwidth and latency." He mentioned that the Sky OS system is a native, global operating system that can provide more efficient information flow and decision support. NIO is also willing to share some modules or kernels of the Sky OS system with other partners, but NIO's current priority is to optimize the internal system and improve the user experience.

Li Bin said that NIO has adopted a multi-sensor strategy in intelligent driving technology, including lidar and pure vision systems. He believes that more reliable sensors and stronger computing power will bring better perception information, thereby improving the performance of intelligent driving.

NIO has equipped its third-generation platform with lidar as standard to solve perception problems in different scenarios. At the same time, Li Bin also emphasized that NIO is confident that it can achieve active safety capabilities and intelligent driving experience that exceed the industry average through a pure vision system.

In addition, Li Bin made it clear that NIO will not get involved in the field of driverless taxis, but will position the value of intelligent driving on "liberating energy and reducing accidents". He believes that the real social value of intelligent driving lies in improving safety and driving experience, rather than replacing existing taxi drivers and private car drivers. NIO is committed to improving vehicle safety and driving convenience through technology, rather than simply increasing the number of vehicles.
