Huawei is one step closer to its goal of “intelligent driving for all”.
On August 19, Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei's Terminal BG and Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, said on Weibo: "The era of universal intelligent driving has arrived!" He revealed that all models under Hongmeng Intelligent Driving will be equipped with Huawei Intelligent Driving as standard.
Recently, Huawei has continued to make efforts to promote the popularization of intelligent driving. On July 1, Huawei reduced the price of the HUAWEI ADS (Qiankun Intelligent Driving) high-end function package by 6,000 yuan. Huawei estimates that by the end of 2024, the number of models equipped with Huawei's intelligent driving system will exceed 500,000.
Huawei promotes the arrival of the "first year of large-scale commercial use of intelligent driving"
On August 19, Yu Chengdong said on Weibo that the owners of the S7 Pro have already driven their cars home and started to enjoy the visual intelligent driving experience brought by the HUAWEI ADS Basic Edition. The upcoming "national SUV" S7 Pro will also be equipped with the HUAWEI ADS Basic Edition. All models under Hongmeng Intelligent Driving will be equipped with Huawei Intelligent Driving as standard.
In Yu Chengdong's eyes, the era of "intelligent driving for all" is coming. Huawei also continues to work hard on the two aspects of intelligent driving technology evolution and popularization, helping the arrival of the era of "intelligent driving for all".
From a technical perspective, at the Huawei Intelligent Vehicle Solution Launch Conference held in April this year, Huawei launched a new intelligent vehicle solution brand with intelligent driving as its core - Huawei Qiankun, and brought Huawei ADS 3.0 Intelligent Driving System, Qiankun Vehicle Control, Qiankun Car Cloud and other solutions.
Kaiyuan Securities Research Report stated that the PDP network (predictive decision-making and control network) to be adopted in Huawei ADS 3.0 realizes a network for pre-decision-making and planning, making decision-making and planning more human-like, driving trajectories closer to human driving, higher traffic efficiency, and a pass rate of more than 96% at complex intersections.
At the above-mentioned press conference, Jin Yuzhi from Huawei Intelligent Vehicle Solutions BU said that the second half of electrification is intelligence, and the turning point of intelligence has arrived. 2024 will be the "first year of large-scale commercial use of intelligent driving", and cooperative models equipped with Huawei Qiankun intelligent vehicle solutions will be launched one after another. Cooperating car companies include Dongfeng, Changan, GAC, BAIC, Seres, Chery, JAC, etc.
In terms of the popularization of intelligent driving, in February this year, Hongmeng Intelligent Driving officially announced that the OTA upgrade of the Wenjie series of models has achieved high-level intelligent driving in highways and urban areas that does not rely on high-precision maps.
In August 2024, the Enjoy S9 will be launched, equipped with Huawei ADS 3.0 for the first time. At the same time, many models under Hongmeng Zhixing will also usher in the "comprehensive evolution" of intelligent driving capabilities: the Ask M5, Ask M7, Ask M9 and Zhijie S7 models will be upgraded to Huawei ADS 3.0 in September, and the parking and driving function will be officially commercialized. Overall, all models under Hongmeng Zhixing will be equipped with Huawei intelligent driving as standard.
For Huawei, it is not only necessary to promote the popularization of intelligent driving, but also to promote the popularization of high-end intelligent driving. On June 30, Huawei announced that the HUAWEI ADS (Qiankun Intelligent Driving) advanced function package launched a limited-time preferential price. The one-time purchase standard price of the ADS advanced function package was adjusted from 36,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan, a price reduction of 6,000 yuan. The activity will last from July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. The monthly and annual subscription prices of the advanced intelligent driving package remain unchanged, with the monthly price still being 720 yuan/month and the annual price being 7,200 yuan/year.
At the same time, many models equipped with Huawei's intelligent driving function have launched "benefits" for high-end intelligent driving. For example, for the Xiangjie S9 model, if you place an order during the first sales period (until 24:00 on October 8, 2024), you will be given a 15,000 yuan option and a 20,000 yuan intelligent driving package discount. The Deep Blue S07, which was launched on July 25, will give the first 6,000 locked-in users (including those who have already picked up the car) a Huawei Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS SE version of the high-end package service worth 5,000 yuan.
Overall, Huawei is moving towards "deeper and wider" in the field of intelligent driving: "deeper" technology, with continuous breakthroughs in high-level intelligent driving; and "wider" coverage, with the popularization of high-level intelligent driving functions through preferential measures.
China's intelligent driving industry "brings in, goes global"
From the perspective of the Chinese market, major Chinese automakers are all focusing on intelligent driving functions, and more and more cars have intelligent driving capabilities.
Minsheng Securities Research Report stated that from the supply side, the commercialization process of car manufacturers is rapid. The urban NOA (i.e. urban advanced intelligent driving) functions of car companies such as Huawei, Xiaopeng, Ideal, and Xiaomi will be accelerated in 2024. The leading car company BYD will accelerate the implementation of intelligent driving, and the end-to-end version of Tesla FSD V12 will be further opened for testing and use. In 2024, intelligent driving will usher in the first year of accelerated industrialization, and the penetration rate of advanced intelligent driving functions (NOA) is expected to steadily increase.
In a conference call held after Tesla released its second-quarter 2024 financial report, Tesla CEO Musk said that Tesla may obtain FSD (Tesla's fully autonomous driving function) license in other markets, such as Europe and China, by the end of this year.
With domestic manufacturers focusing on high-end intelligent driving functions and overseas automakers accelerating the implementation of intelligent driving functions in China, China's intelligent driving industry is entering a period of rapid development. Against this background, many Chinese companies have also achieved the "export" of autonomous driving business.
On July 31, Pony.ai signed a memorandum of cooperation with ComfortDelGro Group, a taxi operator in Singapore. The two parties announced the establishment of a strategic partnership to jointly promote the large-scale commercial operation of self-driving taxis. It is understood that Pony.ai has carried out cooperation in self-driving technology and implementation in South Korea, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other places.
Earlier on July 3, WeRide helped open Singapore's first mass-produced L4 autonomous driving minibus passenger operation route on public roads. Currently, WeRide has obtained autonomous driving licenses in China, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, and its business has expanded to 30 cities in 7 countries around the world.
China Business Industry Research Institute predicts that the market penetration rate of intelligent connected passenger cars equipped with assisted autonomous driving systems in my country will increase to 48.7% in 2024, and the scale of my country's autonomous driving market will reach 383.2 billion yuan in 2024. At the same time, the penetration rate of high-level autonomous driving continues to increase. From the perspective of cars equipped with autonomous driving functions, the penetration rate of L2 autonomous driving in 2023 will be 51%, an increase of 16 percentage points year-on-year, the penetration rate of L3 autonomous driving will be 20%, an increase of 11 percentage points year-on-year, and the penetration rate of L4 autonomous driving will be 11%, an increase of 9 percentage points year-on-year. China's passenger car autonomous driving is undergoing a critical transition period from L2 to L3+.
