Xinhua News Agency, Nusantara, Indonesia, August 13 (Reporter Ye Pingfan and Tao Fangwei) Indonesian President Joko Widodo and several cabinet ministers took a test ride on the smart rail system launched by a Chinese company in the new capital Nusantara on August 13. He said on the same day that compared with traditional rail transit, he believed that the smart rail system could provide a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative.
On that day, Jokowi took the smart rail system from the front of the new presidential palace, circled four coordinating ministry office buildings, and then returned to the front of the presidential palace, a distance of about 2 kilometers.

Indonesia held a meeting of provincial, municipal and county leaders earlier that day. At the meeting, Jokowi compared the smart rail system with the traditional rail transit system and pointed out that in cities with increasingly congested traffic, the cost of the smart rail system is significantly lower than that of subways and light rails. "Indonesia needs a public transportation system based on green energy to cope with the rising pollution levels in urban areas. The smart rail system is a potential solution that is cost-effective and suitable for Indonesia's growing cities."
The smart rail system that Jokowi tested on the 13th was jointly launched by China Norinco International Cooperation Co., Ltd. (Norinco International) and China CRRC Corporation Limited. The two companies jointly promoted the deployment of the smart rail system in Nusantara.
The Zhigui system is an innovative technology independently designed and developed by CRRC Corporation Limited, known as the "light rail on virtual tracks". The system trains are carried by tires instead of rails. Simply by drawing lines on ordinary roads, the trains can run autonomously along the marked track lines as if they were running on rails, saving a lot of investment in infrastructure such as laying rails.
According to Wang Xiaobing, deputy general manager of North China International, the intelligent rail system uses new technologies such as virtual tracks, Beidou positioning, autonomous driving and pure battery power. Compared with trams of the same capacity, it has the advantages of low cost, short construction period and high flexibility. The high capacity and low carbon emissions of the system will help alleviate traffic congestion and environmental pressure faced by large cities.
According to Northern International, the smart rail system has been put into commercial operation in many cities in China and Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
