IT Home reported on August 5 that according to TrendForce's latest near-eye display device report, VR/MR device shipments are expected to reach 37.3 million units in 2030, and between 2023 and 2030The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is 23%

TrendForce defines VR/MR devices as near-eye display devices that achieve an immersive experience through a single display element. Devices that emphasize transparency and the combination of virtual and real application scenarios are considered AR devices.

IT Home learned that TrendForce expects OLEDoS to dominate the high-end VR/MR market, with the technology share increasing to 23% in 2030.

According to reports, OLEDoS uses CMOS technology to achieve higher luminous efficiency through top-emitting OLED components, which reduces the basic specifications of OLEDoS product resolution toPushing up to above 3,000 PPITrendForce pointed out that due to the complexity of CMOS manufacturing technology and low yield, the production cost of OLEDoS display screens is high, limiting the growth of its penetration rate.

The report shows that in the mainstream near-eye display device market, LCD technology has always dominated due to Meta's consideration of cost-effectiveness. However, these devices continue to pursue higher resolution and image quality.LCD products only have a display specification of 1,200 PPI, has faced challenges from other technologies. LCD will continue to occupy the mainstream market, with LCD technology accounting for 63% in 2030.

TrendForce said that OLED technology is not as competitive as OLEDoS in the high-end market, and its cost-effectiveness cannot match that of LCD products. In addition, OLED applications in the VR/MR market mostly rely on specific manufacturers, and its penetration rate has been limited for a long time. Between 2024 and 2030, the technology share of OLED in the VR/MR market will remain at 13% to 15%.
