"with unmanned vehicles, the same order of hairy crabs can be delivered to your home about 2 hours earlier." said zheng wei, general manager of neolithic autonomous vehicle east china region.
jiangsu has gradually expanded its demonstration application scope to promote unmanned vehicle delivery. since last year, suzhou, wuxi, changzhou, yancheng, nanjing and other places have issued road licenses to autonomous vehicle companies. many leading express logistics companies such as postal service, sf express, and "three communications and one delivery" are actively cooperating with autonomous vehicle companies to seize new heights in the autonomous vehicle distribution market.

data from the jiangsu provincial postal administration shows that in 2023, jiangsu province’s mailing and delivery business volume has completed a total of 13.36 billion items. among them, the express delivery business volume is 9.95 billion pieces, and the annual per capita express delivery usage is 156.7 pieces. during holidays and shopping festivals such as “double eleven” and “618”, the huge volume of express parcel business puts great pressure on terminal distribution. in the "last mile" of the urban distribution network, unmanned vehicles extend digital and intelligent reach to all aspects of logistics including receipt, transshipment, and delivery. the digital and intelligent revolution triggered by autonomous vehicles is reshaping the ecology of the logistics industry.
according to reports, since last year, sf express has deployed 180 unmanned vehicles at wujiang logistics transfer station in suzhou, jiangsu province, with more than 200 delivery routes, basically covering all districts in suzhou; the average daily delivery volume has reached more than 100,000 pieces, and the cumulative delivery volume there are nearly 5 million units; it is expected that by the end of this year, the number of unmanned vehicles will increase to 500.
zheng wei said that in addition to daytime, nighttime when there is less traffic is the peak period for unmanned vehicles to deliver goods; using unmanned vehicles for single-ticket express delivery can reduce the cost by 50%, and can meet the needs of retail, instant delivery, the needs of cold chain and other scenarios; as a new transportation tool, unmanned vehicles, with their high efficiency and low cost advantages, play an important role during peak logistics periods such as holidays and shopping festivals. "there is a relatively large demand for autonomous vehicles across the country, and we are stepping up deployment to respond."
in zheng wei's view, urban logistics in the future will no longer be a simple stack of manpower and material resources, but a safe, green, efficient and intelligent collaborative service network. intelligent logistics is the general trend of the future development of the logistics industry. (over)
