silvio costa filho, brazil's minister of ports and airports, said that total airlines has expressed its intention to purchase aircraft from comac to the brazilian government, but so far no formal plan has been proposed.

almada said the company was "forced" to look beyond airbus and boeing as the western manufacturers grappled with supply chain constraints and were unable to meet total's demand for new planes.

according to reports, the deal will promote closer ties between brazil and china in the aviation field.

total aviation's controlling partner almada also said that orders from total airlines and comac may also obtain 80% of the total value of financing from the china development bank, with a maximum term of 10 or 12 years. he also added that the price tag of each c919 is approximately us$90 million (approximately 630 million yuan).

total's current fleet consists of atr 42-500 turboprop aircraft and boeing 737-400 freighters. the c919 can carry up to 192 passengers and is in the same category as the boeing 737 and airbus a320.
