on september 23rd local time, on the stepped stage outside the auditorium of the brazilian ministry of national defense's higher defense college, the military band of the international communication delegation of the chinese people's liberation army played "cloud palace swift sound", the theme song of "journey to the west", and nearly a hundred brazilian primary school students sat at the bottom of the steps to enjoy the performance.
the majestic and rich music of the french horn and tuba continued to overlap, like heavy ink. suddenly, a suona sounded, high and clear, like lightning piercing through the clouds, and then one sound after another, suddenly turning and climbing to a high note again.
brazilian girl emily and the little boy beside her couldn't help stretching out their arms and beating the rhythm with the scale. the high notes of the suona were lingering, and the superb skills of the musicians won applause from the audience.
zhang ziyong, who shocked the audience with his suona, also played saxophone. he told me that for the trip to brazil, nara, a composer of the chinese people's liberation army military band, specially adapted "cloud palace swift sound" and used suona to add the finishing touch to the performance.
in zhang ziyong's opinion, this work, through four parts, depicts the process of sun wukong's birth, fame, outsmarting demons and achieving his goals. the high-pitched and varied timbre of the suona vividly portrays "wukong's clever, brave, positive and just character."
along with "wukong", "dancing in the moonlight" performed by famous chinese trumpet player wang qiang also won the hearts of primary school students. the trumpet sound was sometimes as slow as an andante, and sometimes as rapid as a waterfall, which received continuous applause from the audience.
the accordion player pan lu's song "horse racing" was sometimes passionate and sometimes cool and neat, which was very eye-catching. when the seven musicians performed in the special show, "watercolors of brazil" was called "the second national anthem of brazil". the saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone and tuba started one after another, with layers of mountains and peaks and sparse and dense arrangements, which was highly praised by everyone.
"chinese musicians are full of energy and their performances are full of passion. we hope to have such opportunities for cooperation again," said claudio, director of the brazilian presidential guard military band.
from the melodious chinese folk music "jasmine flower" to the colorful samba dance "friends" and the magnificent "march of the iron torrent", the military bands of the two armies performed together on the same stage and performed many famous songs. claudio said, "i was troubled when choosing the ensemble music. how to show the chinese culture and beauty through the performance? in the end, music made us communicate with each other and completed the mission together."
