in august, there were some unexpected changes in the delivery volume of new car-making forces. under the situation of a month-on-month increase in the overall auto market, the delivery volume of ideal, wenjie, nio, and nezha all declined compared with july. xiaomi's delivery volume was still at the level of more than 10,000, but because no specific data was released, it is still unknown whether it increased month-on-month. only xpeng and leapmotor showed a clear month-on-month growth.
however, the rankings remained almost unchanged, with ideal still in first place, delivering 48,122 new cars in the month, a 5.6% drop from the previous month, but still a 37.8% increase from the same period last year. from january to august, ideal delivered a total of 288,103 new cars, which was significantly higher than the same period last year.
the new hit ideal l6 is still doing very well, with deliveries exceeding 20,000 units for the third consecutive month, and the 100,000th mass-produced car rolled off the assembly line on september 13. the addition of ideal l6 has further increased ideal's market share. it is reported that in the new energy vehicle market above 200,000 yuan, ideal's market share reached 18% in july, surpassing tesla.

according to the data from the china automobile association, in august, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in my country reached 1.092 million and 1.1 million respectively, up 29.6% and 30% year-on-year respectively, and the sales of new energy vehicles accounted for 44.8% of the total new vehicle sales in that month. in terms of the passenger car sector, the sales of new energy passenger cars in the domestic market in august were 949,000, up 31.9% year-on-year, accounting for 54.4% of the domestic passenger car sales, which was a further increase from july.
"this is the third consecutive month that new energy passenger vehicles have accounted for more than 50% of domestic passenger vehicle sales, and this trend will continue," said chen shihua, deputy secretary-general of the china association of automobile manufacturers.
byd is clearly an indispensable driving force behind this trend. in august this year, byd accounted for more than 30% of the new energy vehicle market.

data shows that in august, chery group sold a total of 211,879 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 23.7%, of which 46,526 were new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 158.5%. from january to august, chery group sold a total of 1,508,259 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 41.9%, of which 272,847 were new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 187%.
although an important reason for the rapid growth of chery's new energy sector is the small base last year, from a monthly perspective, it has successively exceeded 25,000, 30,000, 40,000 and 45,000 vehicles since the beginning of this year, and its monthly sales of new energy vehicles have entered the top five domestic brands.

looking at geely, in august, geely auto group achieved passenger car sales of 181,229 units, a year-on-year increase of about 21% and a month-on-month increase of more than 20%. the cumulative sales from january to august were 1,287,741 units, a year-on-year increase of 34%, completing 64.4% of the annual sales target of 2 million units.
focusing on the new energy sector, geely auto group's new energy sales (including geely, lynk & co, and zeekr) reached 75,484 units in that month, up about 65% year-on-year, with new energy accounting for about 42%. from january to august, total new energy sales reached 454,720 units, up more than 97% year-on-year. geely said that its new energy transformation has entered a period of explosive sales growth.

joint venture brands have recovered, with dongfeng honda increasing by nearly 70%
while most domestic brands have been rising thanks to new energy vehicles, joint venture brands have been frustrated by the gradual "shrinking" of the fuel vehicle market and the slow pace of their new energy transformation.
in august, with the overall auto market declining year-on-year, all joint venture brands included in gasgoo's statistics were affected, and their performances were worse than the same period last year.
however, from a month-on-month perspective, the performance of some joint venture automakers seems to have improved. saic volkswagen, saic gm, saic-gm-wuling, changan ford, changan mazda, gac toyota and dongfeng honda all saw month-on-month increases, especially dongfeng honda, which grew nearly 70% month-on-month in august.
a month-on-month increase is naturally a good thing, but combined with previous data, the performance of some automakers is still not optimistic.
for example, although dongfeng honda's sales in august increased significantly month-on-month, its sales in that month were only 23,803 vehicles. it should be noted that its monthly sales in january this year were still at the level of 65,000 vehicles, which had dropped to more than 40,000 vehicles in march, and remained at the level of 30,000 vehicles in the second quarter. in july, dongfeng honda's sales were only 14,229 vehicles, a sharp drop of 59.82% from 35,409 vehicles in june, and a drop of more than 70% from the same period last year. therefore, although sales rebounded in august, its cumulative sales this year still showed a 19% decline from the same period last year.
saic-gm also saw its sales increase by 5.7% month-on-month in august, but it was down more than 80% year-on-year. since the beginning of this year, saic-gm's sales have continued to decline due to multiple factors such as increasingly fierce price wars, insufficient progress in the new energy market, and the gradual loss of competitiveness of old products. in july, saic-gm sold only 15,000 vehicles, down more than 80% year-on-year and more than 90% month-on-month. therefore, the slight recovery in august is difficult to reverse the overall situation. saic-gm's cumulative sales in the first eight months fell by nearly 60% compared with the same period last year.
of course, there are also several joint ventures that performed relatively well.
for example, changan ford and changan mazda's cumulative sales this year are higher than the same period last year, but their volumes are not large, with combined sales in the first eight months less than 200,000 units. in contrast, although saic volkswagen and saic-gm-wuling have shown a year-on-year decline, the decline is small, and both are relatively large, so the situation is still good.
this is closely related to the improvement in the performance of the new energy vehicle sector. it is reported that saic volkswagen's new energy vehicle sales in august were 14,000 units, a year-on-year increase of more than 23%. its pure electric series id. family sales exceeded 13,000 units, and has been delivered for three consecutive months. saic-gm-wuling's new energy vehicle sales were close to 73,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 87.3%.
