after xiaomi’s “loss of more than 60,000 yuan for selling one car” became a hot topic, wenjie also released a car model that “lost nearly 30,000 yuan for selling one car”.
on august 26, hongmeng intelligent driving launched the pro version of the new m7, with a starting price of 249,800 yuan. yu chengdong, huawei's executive director, chairman of the terminal bg, and chairman of the intelligent automotive solutions bu, said frankly: "the materials used in this model are very solid, and the cost is very high. selling one unit will result in a loss of more than 20,000 yuan, close to 30,000 yuan. why are we willing to sell it at such a price? we hope that more users can experience the technology and fun of intelligent driving." it is reported that since its launch in september last year, the m7 series has received more than 240,000 large orders, with strong market performance.
it is worth noting that in april this year, yu chengdong wrote: "we have invested a lot in research and development in intelligent driving technology. huawei's high-end intelligent driving products priced below 300,000 yuan are actually sold at a loss." when talking about low-cost cars, yu chengdong also said that he is not considering launching cars below 200,000 yuan for the time being, because he does not have the ability to achieve a cost of less than 200,000 yuan for the time being.
it is understood that the highlight of the new m7 pro is that it is equipped with the basic version of the ads intelligent driving system, which can realize advanced functions such as high-speed pilot nca and urban lcc+ without the need for laser radar. yu chengdong pointed out that all products under hongmeng intelligent driving will be equipped with huawei's intelligent driving system as standard, and revealed that the ads 3.0 version will be pushed in september to further enhance the user experience. as the star model of hongmeng intelligent driving, the upgrade of its autonomous driving technology has significantly enhanced its market competitiveness.
yu fenghui, a special researcher at the china financial think tank, said: "'selling cars at a loss' reflects the fierce competition in the current new energy vehicle industry, and companies are willing to sacrifice short-term profits to seize market share. this is also a strategic choice for companies in the stage of cultivating the market and expanding brand influence." relevant data show that the penetration rate of high-level autonomous driving in china is growing rapidly, and is expected to reach 8.9% and 14.1% in 2024 and 2025 respectively. the autonomous driving industry is expected to achieve a turning point from 0 to 1.
