In July, new energy SUVs took the top seven spots in the top ten sales list, accounting for 76.57% of the total sales of the top ten, a huge advantage. Among the top ten SUVs, Chinese brands occupied seven seats, accounting for 67.1% of sales.
The performance of new car manufacturers is increasingly impressive. Among them, Ideal L6 has successfully entered a growth period, with sales exceeding 20,000 units in June and July and ranking third in SUV monthly sales, which to some extent swept away the haze brought by the failure of MEGA. Wenjie M9 has been shortlisted in the top ten SUV sales list for four consecutive months, and its price of 469,800-569,800 yuan makes it one of the products that best highlights the improvement of the value of Chinese cars.
In July, domestic sales of new energy passenger cars surpassed traditional fuel passenger cars for the first time, but this new pattern has already emerged in the SUV market.
In the first half of the year, new energy vehicles occupied five of the top ten SUVs in China, accounting for 59.03% of sales. In the first month of the second half of the year, the expansion of new energy vehicles accelerated again. In July, new energy SUVs took the top seven spots in the top ten sales list, and the sales of these seven products accounted for 76.57% of the total sales of the top ten, a huge advantage.
The advancement of new energy and the rise of Chinese brands complement each other and achieve mutual success. Among the top ten SUVs in July, Chinese brands occupied seven seats, accounting for 67.1% of sales. Among the seven Chinese brand SUVs on the list, new energy models accounted for six. BYD maintained its high-profile status of having three cars on the list, GAC Aion Aion Y continued to recover, and two new forces, Ideal L6 and Wenjie M9, also participated in the competition in the new pattern.
The comprehensive development of the new energy matrix of Chinese brands has also given Chinese brands stronger bargaining power and value. The best example is that the 500,000 yuan-level M9 has been among the top ten SUV monthly sales for many consecutive months. In addition, although the L6 is an ideal entry-level model, its price of 250,000 yuan still far exceeds that of mainstream joint venture models.
Focusing on the performance of specific models, Tesla Model Y, which won the monthly championship five times in the first half of the year, continued its good form, with sales of 36,299 units in July, leading the second place by more than 10,000 units, and the advantage is still huge. But what makes Tesla headache is that its overall sales growth rate has stagnated. In the second quarter, Tesla's sales fell 13% in the United States, 17% in China, and 33% in Europe. At the same time, the bleak Q2 financial report cannot be ignored. In the second quarter, although Tesla's revenue increased slightly by 2.3% year-on-year to US$25.5 billion, its net profit fell 42.8% year-on-year to US$1.494 billion.
It is worth noting that Tesla is currently caught up in a large-scale recall problem. In August, Tesla issued a large-scale recall involving more than 1.68 million vehicles in China; in the first half of the year, it also launched a single recall of more than 1.6 million vehicles; so far, its total recall this year has exceeded 3.31 million vehicles.
It is not new that three BYD models are included in the list. In July, BYD Yuan PLUS, Song PLUS DM-i and Song Pro DMi sold 25,594, 21,025 and 18,336 units respectively, ranking 2nd, 4th and 5th.
The rising new car-making forces are also performing more and more prominently in the list. Among them, Ideal L6 has successfully entered the growth period. It entered the top ten SUV sales list for the first time in May. In June and July, it broke through 20,000 units and ranked third in monthly SUV sales, showing great momentum.
Driven by L6, Ideal Auto's sales in July finally exceeded 50,000 units again, which to some extent cleared the haze brought by the failure of MEGA. However, whether the pressure on investment returns brought by MEGA and the overall price drop of Ideal Auto brought by L6 will have an impact on the company's profitability performance still needs to be continuously monitored.

Another star product, the M9, has been in the top ten SUV sales for four consecutive months. In July, the sales of the M9 reached 17,151 units, ranking sixth. In addition to its impressive sales, the M9 is also one of the products that best highlights the value improvement of Chinese cars. Its price range of 469,800 to 569,800 yuan is not only unique in the top ten list, but also much higher than the price of luxury brands' "volume" models. (China Economic Net reporter Guo Yue)
